I am an actor based in London. I play the guitar and the cello. I have a wide range of interests from the theatre and film, through football to comic books. A massive Spider-man and Manchester United fan, I also enjoy visiting galleries and museums and even attending the odd concert.
The reason that I wanted to become a tutor is that I know how important a good one can be. I had a couple of private tutors and many good teachers throughout my academic career and I am indebted to all of them. Without their help I would not have been able to go to the places, or acheive the things, that I have. Having someone explain things to you, just for you, in the way that you can understand is a great feeling. I still add decimals how I was taught when I was eight because it was explained in a way that I thought was funny, so I remembered it.
This is the kind of teaching experience that I want to pass on. Learning doesn't need to be boring. If explained in the right way anything can be understood and found to be interesting. I also love my subjects and I would love to pass that on.
I'd like to think of myself as friendly, patient and professional. I can relate to lots of different people, am a good listener and I work well with kids. Being an actor I am open to lots of ideas and different methods but I also understand the need for structure and discipline at the right times.
Exams and difficult subjects can be nerve racking at times but, if approached well and logically, they can become easily tackled and, sometimes, enjoyable too.

Owen's professional approach was evident from day one. He offered clear and relevant explanations and good, practical advice on exam technique which gave my son confidence walking into some very tough 11+ exams. Backed up by a sound knowledge of what was expected my son received offers from the two highly selective schools he applied for. When asked to sum up his thoughts on Owen my son said "He's amazing, a real professional".
Owen Findlay coached my son or English GCSE in 2013 and for English A-S level in 2014. Owen was an effective teacher and was popular with my son. In each year he worked for us for several months and was always reliable, punctual and a pleasure to have in the house.
