My history teaching is predominantly techniques based. By focusing on skills (essay writing, source analysis note taking etc.) I help students understand topics in a way that directly prepares them for all aspects of history syllabi from exams to classwork and coursework. These techniques form the structure of my teaching courses, with the development of skills, rather than wrote knowledge, being the overall focus.
I graduated with a master's degree two years ago having studied history undergraduate at Oxford University. Since graduation, I have tutored 5 students in History at A-level, Pre-U and GCSE to very strong results. I focus on preparing students for all aspects of the course, focusing not only on essay writing but on exam technique, revision strategies and coursework. I have had particular success in the latter, where my students have scored exceptionally well in their Personal Investigations and Coursework projects.
I provide constant free support to my students outside our lessons via email. This includes reviewing essays, advising on classwork, and suggesting reading, podcasts etc. that might be relevant to the students interests or courses

Perfect! Hugh is excellent, my son is engaged and very much up for tutorials with Hugh which speaks volumes in itself.
Hugh's own experience through school and the college has given him an understanding of what you need to do to structure your learning to achieve the results you want. His success both academically and socially shows that he has that understanding. Working with Hugh will allow you to confirm your goals and then together you will be able to set out a strategy to achieve the same success.
I've known Hugh for over 5 years. He excels at explaining difficult concepts in approachable ways. He is an organised and practical person, with interesting experiences and informed viewpoints on a wide range of topics.
