About the lesson
I have participated in official admissions for the Colombia-Sciences Po joint programmes. I would be happy to help students with their Oxbridge and other applications to leading schools, including review of personal statements, preparing for interviews or entrance exams.
I can also teach custom courses for A-level students who desire to both strengthen their application and prepare for the interviews and university life. My flexible problem-solving methodologies are tailored to best fit the individual needs of each student: an intense run through notions, definitions and facts related to single economic and historical events or broader periods; an in-depth immersion into one specific aspect of economic and political history; a broad-spectrum study of global economic an historical event in transnational perspective; a general critical reflection on facts and notions in economics and history.
My ultimate goal is not only to deliver notions to students, but also to arouse interest, enthuse and stimulate critical thinking. I have consistently been able to ensure that my teaching equipped students both with the information needed to score extremely high in their exams and with flexible critical tools which have served them well as they pursued careers as diverse as banking, consulting and academic research.
I received high-quality teaching training at Oxford University (DLT, Developing Learning and Teaching; PLTO, Preparation for Learning and Teaching at Oxford) and in 2015 became Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). I then served as teaching assistant of Prof. Paul Betts (St. Antony’s College and History Faculty, Oxford University). This wealth of theoretical and practical experience has been the key factor that allowed me to develop multiple teaching methodologies tailored to best fit the audience size (I delivered classes to large audiences, seminars to medium-small groups as well as small-group and individual tutorials) as well as the individual needs of students. I have delivered tutorials to students with firm command over the themes at issue, who needed a thought-provoking further immersion in their topics of interest, but also taught students who were approaching for the first times issues in the realm of economic and political history.

Over the course of the past five years I have taught more than 400 students of the most diverse backgrounds at five leading European universities (Oxford University, Sciences Po, University of Bologna, University of Padua and University of Milan-Bicocca).
I have taught courses at both undergraduate and graduate level on Contemporary European and Global History (20th-21st century), Modern European and Global History (19th century), History of Economic Thought, Economic History, Politics of History, Russian and East European History, Contemporary Chinese Political History.
The high quality of my teaching was recognized by Oxford University’s “Best Postgraduate Teacher” in the Humanities (2018) and has earned me three consecutive years of teaching at Sciences Po.
Teaching has been and still is the highlight of my job, which also comprises academic research. Since my Doctoral studies I have always ensured that a relevant portion of my time be dedicated to teaching, while not detracting from my academic obligations. I have an excellent certified track record to prove the high standards of my teaching: at Sciences Po, the average of “excellent” and “good” opinions concerning my courses expressed by 276 students in anonymous evaluation forms is 94,5%; at Oxford, the recorded average evaluation for a course whose syllabus I redesigned and which I delivered both through seminars and tutorials is, on a 1 to 5 scale where 5 is strong approval, 4.8.
I have taught with Giovanni while I was a lecturer at Sciences Po. He was an outstanding teacher who is loved by his students. While he does world-class research, he very much enjoys teaching which is a rarity amongst academics. You can book a session with him being confident that you will have an experienced and dedicated teacher to support you.
Giovanni is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He helped me with Russian Politics and Economics. His ability to explain complex concepts so easily and make the subject so enjoyable make him such an excellent tutor. He always made sure that we would follow my pace. I highly recommend him!
