My name is Eleanor, and I recently completed my BA in Philosophy and Theology at Oxford. I teach philosophy to students at GCSE level to A-Level, with an aim to develop not just knowledge, but a deeper understanding of the philosophical method.
My lessons will first and foremost be tailored to suit the individual needs of the student, depending on the level at which they are at. I encourage students to think deeply about problems and areas of philosophy, rather than simply learning facts; this means engaging in live discussion in lessons, and some wider reading, where appropriate.
I am a new tutor, but I am equipped with skills and knowledge fresh from Oxford and I am keen to pass on these assets. I think I am especially capable of this due to my experience with Oxford's thorough and stimulating tutorial system, which I will in some ways emulate.

2016 - present Warehouse assistant, Margaret Howell, London
As a float worker, I spent two 8 hour days a week working in the warehouse for the British clothing designer Margaret Howell over the summer of 2016, and continue to work occasional shifts in the holidays. My role was mostly in quality control, though I worked in a variety of areas of the warehouse - all my jobs involved a lot of attention to detail and good communication. The workplace environment was extremely enjoyable to be a part of, though often exhausting, and in the process I have learned a great deal about how a company like this one works, as well as improved my time management and teamwork skills.
2015 - 2016 Child Welfare Officer and Tutor, Students4Students, Oxford/London
This is a tutoring charity started and run by students at Oxford and LSE, of which I formed part of the committee. My role concerned the welfare of the pupils we tutor, and I was responsible for compiling the legal documents involved such as the Protection Policies for children, young people and vulnerable adults, an equality policy, and consent forms. I was the first port of call if there are any issues concerning welfare between the teachers, tutors or parents in relation to the charity and its work. As a tutor, I spent an hour a week tutoring 2 year 5 pupils in half-hour one-on-one sessions in English, which mostly involved working with them on weak areas highlighted by their teachers. I found the process very rewarding. In order to gain this role, I have passed a formal DBS check, and basic training in tutoring methods.
2012 Assistant, Oh Comely Magazine, London
This role involved a range of different tasks, including writing interview transcripts, cooking, and roaming the streets to interview members of the public. I was also involved in the process of naming and subtitling the articles in the upcoming issue, which I found enjoyable as well as challenging!
