As a postgraduate, I tend to tutor a mixture of A-level/Cambridge Pre-U and undergraduate degree students. I agree a lesson structure in collaboration with my students to best approach their particular challenges or areas of focus. We tend to agree upon a larger structure, usually 8 weeks, through which the focus of individual lessons can be tailored so as to achieve something substantial and comprehensive. These goals include increased practice exam scores, better class grades, and a final submission for a peace of coursework, a thesis or an EPQ.
For essay coaching and university admissions, my time with students is usually split between video lessons and remote editing and commenting on drafts of dissertations and essays. Given the nature of essay deadlines, and their tendency to approach rapidly, I like to see students at least once a week and make myself available at all hours via email to edit drafts and provide advice on particular assignments.
I hold undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Oxford University in the humanities and social sciences. I have now been tutoring online for two years, providing teaching on essay writing, including dissertations and theses, A-level English and History, and American university admissions tests. Through the course of teaching, I have come to appreciate the centrality of technique to successful essay writing and the lack of good guidance on this in school curricula. I find students whom I tutor on essay writing for exams or coursework see marked improvements, not only in these areas, but across all facets of their academic lives where clear and coherent self-expression is crucial. I have enjoyed significant success with students in both UK and US university admissions training and very much enjoy the process of getting to know students as they develop a rounded record of their personalities and capabilities to submit to their chosen schools.
I do not charge for time spent reviewing students work outside of video lesson hours unless this is for dissertation or coursework where significant comments and edits have to be made to very long documents.
