I am happy to give lessons at any level from those completing GCSEs to finishing their first year at university.
When teaching physics I am a firm believer in problem based learning and aim to use examples to illuminate any key concepts whenever possible. I am however flexible in my approach and can focus more or less on the details of the mathematics or physics depending upon the interests, ability and needs of the student.
When teaching mathematics I like to teach the techniques first and then later, to reinforce the students understanding, apply the maths in realistic situations. Again I can adapt these methods to the learning style of the student.
I am a very patient tutor and can quickly react to the needs of the student, adjusting lesson plans where necessary to achieve the desired learning outcomes of a session.
I recently graduated with a 1st class Masters degree in physics from Imperial College London and am about to start a PhD in Ocean Sciences at the University of Oxford. I have a solid background in advanced mathematics and physics as well as a large amount of experience in scientific computing. I have experience of teaching A level maths and physics, on top of experience working with and teaching young people in my role as a qualified sailing instructor. I have in the past sat A levels and the Oxford PAT test, making me well aware of the challenges that come with such examinations.
