Oxford University English student available for English tuition - online or in Oxford area

Methodology

I am available to tutor pupils preparing for GCSE/A Levels in English Language and Literature, as well as ESOL/EFL. With a strong background in Speech and Drama and a keen interest in poetry, I am particularly focused upon spoken expression and comprehension, whilst my study of the subject to degree level and editorship of a satirical magazine mean that I have a strong eye for detail in terms of written work.
The content and order of my lessons tend to be planned in advance, after an initial consultation with the student; after this point, however, this provisional running order is relatively flexible depending on their week-to-week academic demands.

Background

I am currently completing my third year of BA English Language and Literature at Oxford, and am absolutely in love with the subject! In the summer of 2018, I tutored six separate classes in English as a Foreign Language in four locations across China, and also as a summer school leader in Oxford, building on tuition experience begun as a Literacy Mentor whilst in Lower 6th.

Rosa's CV

Education New College, University of Oxford
BA English Language and Literature, 2017-2020.

Our Lady and St Patrick’s College, Knock
GCSE - 7 A* 5 A | A Level A*AA (+ A in AS French)

Experience President, Oxford University Irish Society, Oxford – June 2018-
Significantly expanded the Society's social media and college presence; our membership has quadrupled during my tenure. Secured the support of Dingle Gin and Poacher's Well Tonic for an 'all Irish G&T' at our highly successful inaugural Black Tie dinner in November 2018. Designed and produced the first ever run of branded merchandise for the society, comparing between and negotiating with suppliers.

Editor of The Phoenix, New College, Oxford – May 2018-
Selected by panel as editor of monthly satirical magazine, The Phoenix, for this academic year – this is collated, printed, and distributed to a readership of approximately 300 undergraduates. I ensured the expansion of our contributing team by 50%, and have become highly proficient in the use of OpenOffice and Photoshop software.

Work Experience, AV Browne Advertising, Belfast - March 2019
Conducted extensive market research in preparation for four diverse upcoming campaigns, thus becoming adept in use of platforms such as L:SN, Mintel, and Google Analytics, and sat in on a number of pre-pitch meetings. Gained invaluable insight into the advertising industry, and was especially interested in strategy and copywriting.

Treasurer, New College Arts Week 2019 - January-June 2019
Building on previous year’s role as Marketing and Logistics Officer. Responsible for a £5000 budget for one week of free cultural events, and for securing further corporate sponsorship. Expected total audience of 1500-2000 across the week.

Caller for Telephone Campaign, UNIQ Oxford University - February 2019
Telephoned and marketed the University’s flagship free outreach summer schools, UNIQ, to a number of schools across Northern Ireland and the West Midlands, having taken part myself in 2016.

Intern at Fine Point Films, Upper Arthur Street, Belfast – April 2018:
Most interested in pre-production pitching and pre-release marketing and promotion. Assisted in the marketing for and running of a première of FPF’s Hear My Voice, at the Queens Film Theatre.

Student Teaching Assistant for Gotoco, Beijing – July-August 2018:
Taught English at three eight-day summer camps for 11-19 year old pupils across China over a period of six weeks. Gained some basic proficiency in Mandarin.

Work Experience at Doris and MacMahon Solicitors, Cookstown – February 2016:
Made and received telephone calls on solicitor’s behalf, assisted in the organisation of case files.
