I studied physics at Oxford University and graduated with a Distinction in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics.
I started from a small village in Greece and got into university by teaching myself physics and maths because I could not afford otherwise. Eventually, I scored high in the PAT (Physics Aptitude Test) and the Oxford interviews.
My teaching techniques are original and inspired by my experience in self teaching. Also, taking part in Maths, Physics and Astronomy Olympiads, I learned to clearly communicate my thinking to fellow students or examiners.
I can give lessons to interested high school students that have a passion for learning.
I am always open for discussion.
Physics and Maths Tuition Approach
For the PAT and other admission tests, the tutorial is structured around a set of carefully chosen questions, which the student has to complete before the session. The lesson is focused on the areas that prove to be challenging to the student. The next problem set is again adapted to the specific abilities and the challenges faced by the student.
For the admission interviews, the tutorial is again structured around a set of possible interview questions, but this time the student does not know the questions beforehand. The aim of this is to simulate the environment of the interview. The goal of the candidate should not be to answer all questions correctly but to show, through the discussion with the interviewer, that he is able to think independently and in a structured manner.
For A-level physics/maths lessons, usually the first half of the tutorial is focused on homework and the other half on discussing new concepts with the help of examples and analogies.
Similarly, for IB physics/maths lessons, the first half of the tutorial is focused on homework and the other half on covering new ideas in the syllabus.
For GCSE and younger students, most of the time is devoted to problem-solving and examples. Different ways to make the subject more exciting are explored, like watching related videos or playing games/puzzles.
Finally, with adults and undergraduates, the main focus is on the homework. Before discussing the material, the student has to spend a reasonable amount of time to solve the problem sheets, or past papers, and then these problems are discussed. Attention is brought to the areas of difficulty.
Fotios Ioannis is one of our best tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!
In Oxford, I was accepted by an educational company to help with their mentorship programme for Oxbridge applications, and gave my first tutorial to a class of four students in 2016.
On the other hand, my first experience with online teaching was in 2018. I started online tutorials with a student that I prepared for 1 year for the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT). PAT is the entrance exam for Oxford Physics and Engineering and is something like a combination of the A-level physics and maths exams but slightly harder.
Over the past 4 years I've prepared for PAT more than 10 students, all of them being invited for interviews and some eventually accepted, seeking to study Physics or Engineering at Oxford. As an example, one of my students was invited to St Hilda's and Baliol College and she was eventually admitted to Baliol to study Engineering.
I have also prepared students for the A-level and IB Physics and Maths exams. In particular, my two most recent A-level students received A* at both physics and maths. While, for IB, my students have received 7/7 at IB Physics SL and HL, IB Mathematics HL and Further Mathematics HL.
At the same, time I have prepared students for GCSE and IGCSE and younger ones, as well as students for the UKMT maths competitions, like the Junior Kangaroo and other Mathematical Olympiads.
Finally, I have helped plenty undergraduate students with their studies. For example, this year only, I had students from Durham Physics, Imperial Physics and Manchester Physics. We worked together throughout the year on several modules like Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Quantum Mechanics.
For online tuition, I mostly use the Zoom platform. With the help of the online whiteboard, and my digital pen, the tutorial is as smooth as a face-to-face one.

Perfect! Extremely good teacher and a knowledgeable guy! My only problem is I didn’t have someone like him to help me from the start. He teaches Complex variables so much better than my university lecturer and I would honestly recommend him to anyone who needs help!
Perfect! Excellent Tutor. Fotios is extremely knowledgeable in mathematics and physics and was able to explain complex undergraduate physics topics to me during our lessons in a clear, concise, and interesting way. He is very reliable, committed and personable and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor!
Perfect! Fotios is a very committed, reliable and knowledgeable tutor, his lessons are interesting, concise, and well-structured. My son has learned so much from his lessons, and Math has become one of his favourite and best subjects.
Perfect! Excellent tutor. Very good at explaining topics and concepts. Would definitely recommend!
Perfect! Fotis is thoughtful, kind, brilliant, knowledgeable and dependable. He has gone above and beyond to help so many students in so many different fields. I cannot recommend Fotis more strongly.
Perfect! Fotis is a highly qualified and compassionate tutor who did a great job working with two A-Level Physics students! I definitely recommend his services to anyone who is looking for a tutor who is both knowledgeable and personable. He's a gem!
Perfect! We are so pleased to have Fotios teaching my son maths. He have so much positive qualities like compassion patience commitment and a very knowledgeable tutor, he have all these qualities in abundance and his expertise in teaching has put our minds at ease and my son is confident now and really enjoying.
Thank you for the support and I will highly recommend.
Perfect! Excellent! Fotios, over the course of 4 months, has really helped my daughter develop her problem-solving skills. He makes the subject engaging and can pass on his enthusiasm to his students. I really think she will do very well in the Physics Aptitude Test.
Good! He knows physics very well and aims to give an engaging tutorial, however I don't think he spent enough time preparing for our lesson which was rather disappointing.
Studying alongside Fotios as Physics students here at Oxford has demonstrated to me that he is one of the most intelligent and diligent Physicists I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His understanding of mathematics and physics, as well as his seamless ability to explain difficult concepts to me and my colleagues, reflects very strongly on his ability as a tutor.
Fotios is such an amazing tutor! He makes everything seem easy, by explaining, even the most complicated ideas, in simple words. He is always eager to answer your questions and help you in anything you need. I totally suggest him as your tutor!
Fotios is a very skilled tutor, with a very broad knowledge spectrum which proves to be essential when answering my questions! I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
He is an excellent teacher with enthusiasm for physics and maths and a great ability to pass on his knowledge to his students
We met in the University of Oxford. He is an extremely helpful tutor with a a very clear and analytical mind. He explains concepts well and is a very approachable and pleasant! Definitely recommended!
Fotis has already worked as a tutor in school.
He used to teach his friends about astronomy as he became a member of the National team of astronomy of Greece when he was 16. Today he is one of the best students in the physics department of Oxford.
