I always believe that the student comes first. students may have different approaches towards how they study and tackle problems. I Will always invite questions from the student an give them the courage they need to be able to do problems themselves. If a student is clearly heading down the wrong direction in terms of studying, I will set out guidelines as to how they should proceed. once the student understands a method then I will test them on their new knowledge by getting them to talk through what they did and suggest any improvements they can make. I also find that after a period of time that if I get the student to teach me as if they are the tutor they learn the method better.
