Inspire, understand and illuminate. Any kid can learn, any kid can listen but not every teacher can teach. I find it crucial to gain an understanding of the pupil in question, as once you understand them, you can teach them.
I'm Max and I have a passion and a talent for teaching. I have taught at high school and at college. In year 13 my teacher fell ill and asked me to conduct lessons until the end of the year.

When a challenging opportunity or situation has arisen in my life I have always found myself able to step up and take that opportunity. I left school with an average set of GSCE results, but finished college with the best mark in my class for every subject and three academic awards. Simultaneously, I worked three nights a week and took on demanding extracurricular activities which saw me teaching two classes of 16-18-year olds for five weeks and coaching a rugby team at the age of 18. I am imaginative, a fast learner and a wholehearted contributor. I have enjoyed success in and out of education due to these traits and my ability to stamp my work with my personality.
Whyte and Ivory Ltd (2011-2018) – Whilst at school, college and university I have worked regularly for this Lancashire based textile company in my holidays. Importing fabrics mainly from the Far East, W&I sell sells half its turnover in the UK, with Europe and the USA as its principal export markets. I have seen W&I grow rapidly from a standing start to become a successful international business. Experience with W&I has ranged from stock management and assembling purchase orders to helping unload 36 tonne containers from China. Surprisingly, curtain lining has never particularly interested me, however, my experience at this company has been invaluable to my understanding of customer relations, meeting demanding deadlines and working as part of a team.
Gardening (2011-2013) – My brother and I distributed leaflets in our village advertising our services as gardeners. For a couple of years, we would appropriate my Mum’s gardening equipment to complete various jobs.
Craven Heifer Inn, Kelbrook (2013-2016) - Whilst at college I picked up evening and weekend shifts as bartender and waiter at this local gastro-pub. This job offered valuable exposure in honing social skills and dealing with customers whilst working as part of a team.
Blackburn Museum (2013-2018) – Over the past few years I have occasionally worked with
Blackburn Museum, helping conduct Primary research on projects and writing articles for their blog. This experience has helped me further develop my literary and presentation skills and, in the process, I proved an ability to tailor my work to various audiences in a professional manner.
Stockport Town FC (2018) – I am currently working on a part-time basis for this football club as their Media Officer. My primary roles here are to manage their social media accounts, as well as conduct digital commentary throughout the games and write match reports. Writing to a high standard and in-depth data analysis have always come naturally to me and working with this club has allowed me to develop these skills further.
Coaching - I started a rugby team in my first year at college. When I spoke to the head of P.E he said, ‘Go ahead but I’m not helping’. I coached, ran and captained my college team for two years, turning a bunch of average young lads into slightly older, more mature and still pretty average rugby players! We reached two finals in local tournaments, winning one and being robbed of the other. I did this whilst studying and excelling in my AS and A level exams. The lads I coached were my age, meaning managing them was no easy task and, therefore, in the process I proved a talent for communication and leadership.
Teaching - In my final two months of college my History teacher was on leave and asked me to take revision classes for the AS and A2 students as our exams were fast approaching. For the next five weeks I taught revision classes and seminars, as well as marking past papers for my peers. Looking back on this experience I am proud, not only that I helped two classes succeed in their examinations, but that John Lamb had the confidence in me to deputise on his behalf at such a crucial stage of the year.
