About Paul
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching students of all ages in both one-to-one and group classes for the last 6 years. I have also been involved in jazz courses such as Trinity Summer School ((concealed information) the international jazz summer school ((concealed information) and various workshops with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
As an active musician I have played with many great U.K jazz musicians including Julian Joseph, Liane Carroll and Mark Lockheart at venues such as Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex, Bulls Head and Queen Elizabeth Hall. I have also been able to tour the U.K and Europe with (concealed information) Have recently worked alongside artists such as Paloma Faith, Tony Christie and Beverly Knight.
As for the lessons themselves, I plan each lesson with regard for the individual students needs as I believe this will not only make the lesson much more valuable but also a lot more enjoyable.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
no
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at Trinity Collage of music with Paul Westwood, Steve Watts and Laurence Cottle.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach students of all ages (from 10 to 60) and who all have different levels of understanding and ability.
For example, I have been teaching a largely self taught jazz electric bass player, who has achieved quite a high standard of improvisation. However after the first lesson it was clear that there were holes in their knowledge of harmony and rhythmic abilities. Once this had been established we were able to tailor the future lessons to solve these problems with both technical and creative exercises and playing time. I feel that because the lessons are quite personal to each student, they are much more enjoyable and aid their progression much more rapidly.
