Methodology

Hi Folks! How are we managing these troubled times? Previously, I may have said the following: I`m Pete, a chap who travels to sunny Alderwasley and less so Donny for GCSE poetry and prose and A level Politics ( Brexit done, now for the tricky bit). There's also Macbeth and IELTS ( for those who wish to stay and those who just want to leave); the engaging in joyous (?) KS2 Maths and English activities with children uptown, downtown, Libyan and those around the corner and finally sprinklings of Maya Angelou with a Sheffield High lass. Yes, the day is certainly varied, involving much zigzagging across our grey Yorkshire city and as of late now includes the SUFC Academy for Edexcel and AQA English ( and here's me a sodding Owl!). Drawing my attention too are GCSE History, Maths and A level History - a subject of which during the summer months I mark for Edexcel ( so versatile - or ought that be money grabbing? ).
Yet, overnight all has changed. As someone who loves his poetry may I leave you with this thought:

W B Yeats
Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before.

Hope you`ve been washing your hands. Normality will return but maybe not as we know it.
Cheers, Pete.

- How much do you charge?

£20-£30 per hour ( GCSE 25/ 30 A level ), though, to be honest, I'm pretty flexible. Prices can be negotiated on a student by student basis depending on the number of hours, location or size of class. Tea, coffee and plates of chocolate biscuits can be negotiated too...... although I've recently discovered a fondness for blueberry muffins!

- Where do you teach?

I'm based in Sheffield and teach EFL at Birkdale and Politics at Alderwasley but do get around for I'm quite the adventurous type - I occasionally go to the theatre on my own! But seriously....I travel to Rotherham for a Y4 lass from the Girls' High and Gainsborough for a Y11 GCSE English student. As for other exotic locales? I've taught in Chesterfield, Donny, even Cudworth ( Cudwho? ) and up to the last academic year travelled to sunny Alderwasley for Politics, History and Citizenship. Said I was a gadabout, didn't I? Have bus timetable can travel. South Yorkshire and beyond considered, golden beaches or a New York skyline preferred .

- When are you available?

Again, I'm pretty flexible and will consider any offer on a case by case basis. Weekends are not out of the question either but beware I'm a Wednesdayite so home games are sacrosanct even more so, given last season's Wembley adventure - this year the lads really mean business. Our Chairman insists on nothing less than promotion. Watch this space.....

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

ESOL Entry Level 1/2/3 and over; A level History/Theatre Studies/Politics/English; SEN literacy/numeracy; KS2/KS3 English/Maths/science; Adult learning; IELTS; GCSE History and English; IGCSE History and English.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

A level/GCSE/IGCSE History, Politics, English literature and language and Theatre Studies - AQA/Edexcel/WJEC. Trinity/IELTS/ESOL/EFL/SATS/City and Guilds..

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Hi, my name's Pete and if you like what you've read so far, give me a call. If you still like me after that we'll arrange a meeting - I'm perfectly house trained - mash a brew and start a lesson or two - it rhymes!. All the best, Pete.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Both Sheffield Universities and more recently Sheffield College with occasional sorties to Spain to make the odd theatre prop or two - my paper mache cows were something to behold! I once could say all that in Spanish. And who could ever forget the Clowning and Circus workshops? Yes, I was the child who ran away with the circus.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Well, the only connection I have with anything professional would be Sheffield Wednesday. Opps, you said professional didn't you? And before you mention it... there's always next year ( again) .

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Plumbers, a Bulgarian, some lower 6th Chinese, teenage English and two very small Brazilians, The subjects are pretty varied; Conversational English; GCSE History; A level History, Politics and English; GCSE English; Y2/Y3/Y4/Y7/ English and Maths; adult learners in Maths/Functional Skills; and a couple of youngsters on the Autistic spectrum. Young, old, grown up or growing up they're all a delight to work with ( mostly!).
