SEN, Autism, Asperger's Tutor abounding with patience, tolerance, fun and compassion

Methodology

Hi, I’m Pete, and here we are back at school once more. Boo! Where does the time go? A question there for the philosophers. Results came through and happy students look at 6th Form and beyond. High Fives, Hurrahs and for some the start of their A levels. Wednesday now possess a new manager, our country remains rudderless and my kitchen requires painting - a task I can easily put on hold indefinitely. But, hey, let's accentuate and positive: to new and familiar faces with their IELTS, English, History, Politics, Drama and occasional Maths. Birkdale and Alderwasley's doors are open and canteen food consumed. It really is not as bad as some folk say. How can you go wrong with fish and chips? Cheers, Pete

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

A level History,English, Theatre Studies and Politics; ESOL,IELTS,Special Needs; GCSE History, English Literature and Language; KS3/KS2 English/Maths/science; IGCSE History, English and 11 Plus. And oddly, time spent over GCSE Geography - not too sure how that happened but happened it did. I quite enjoyed it!

- Tell me about your qualifications.

C AND G 7303 PTTLS; CertTEFL; Theatre Thesis title: 'A Calling To Account - Iraq, Rail and Racism. Verbatim Theatre, the here and now';MA international relations. Dissertation title: The Ties that Bind Us. US foreign policy in central America in the 1980s; BA (with honours) Historical Studies. Dissertation title: Literature and Empire. Myth making and Imperialism; 3 A levels - Economics, History and English - and 8 O'levels including Maths and English; 2017 Safeguarding training; 2015 Prevent Duty Agenda (general awareness module); Preventing Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) programme (general awareness module); E-Safety programme (general awareness module); Equality and Diversity in the workplace (general awareness module) Sheffield College;2013 ESOL/Sheffield Museums workshop;2007 - 2013 Royal Shakespeare Company and Crucible theatre workshops;2010 Smart board training Sheffield College;2008-2009 Course on cultural awareness/teaching of English as a foreign language SAVTE;2003-2006 Courses on SEN intervention including literacy, numeracy, barriers to education and the varied forms learning can take Kimberworth Centre;1996- 2006 Lifting and handling certificates Sheffield Council/Rawmarsh Community School.

- How much do you charge?

£20 - £30 per hour ( GCSE 25/ A level 30) though, to be honest, I'm pretty flexible. Prices can be negotiated on a student by student basis depending on the number of hours, location or size of class. Tea, coffee and plates of chocolate biscuits can be negotiated too...... although I've recently discovered a fondness for blueberry muffins!

- Where do you teach?

I'm based in Sheffield and teach EFL at Birkdale and Politics at Alderwasley but do get around for I'm quite the adventurous type - I occasionally even go to the theatre on my own! But seriously....I travel to Rotherham for a Y4 lass from the Girls' High and Gainsborough for a Y11 GCSE English student. As for other exotic locales? I've taught in Chesterfield, Donny, even Cudworth ( Cudwho? ) and up to the last academic year travelled to sunny Alderwasley for Politics, History and Citizenship. Said I was a gadabout, didn't I? Have bus timetable can travel. South Yorkshire and beyond considered, golden beaches or a New York skyline preferred .

- When are you available?

Again, I'm pretty flexible and will consider any offer on a case by case basis. Weekends are not out of the question either but beware I'm a Wednesdayite so home games are sacrosanct even more so, given last season's Wembley adventure - this year the lads really mean business. Our Chairman insists on nothing less than promotion. Watch this space.....

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

ESOL Entry Level 1/2/3 and over; A level History/Theatre Studies/Politics/English; SEN literacy/numeracy; KS2/KS3 English/Maths/science; Adult learning; IELTS; GCSE History and English; IGCSE History and English.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

A level/GCSE/IGCSE History, Politics, English literature and language and Theatre Studies - AQA/Edexcel/WJEC. Trinity/IELTS/ESOL/EFL/SATS/City and Guilds..

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Hi, my name's Pete and if you like what you've read so far, give me a call. If you still like me after that we'll arrange a meeting - I'm perfectly house trained - mash a brew and start a lesson or two - it rhymes!. All the best, Pete.
