I love science, and hope to pass my enthusiasm onto others through tutoring. I believe that enjoyment of a subject will aid in learning, and that we must add relevance to aid understanding. It is important that learning is a conversation between tutee and tutor, to ensure that the environment is conducive for the tutee.
My approach is tutee-led, working initially on past papers to determine confidence levels, then focusing in on specific areas of the curriculum that need attention. Each tutee is different, and I ensure that each is learning in a way specific to the techniques they use, as well as introducing different ways of learning if appropriate.
I particularly enjoy using colour and large A3 paper to revise complicated topics!
I have a degree in Microbiology, a PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry and six years experience of working in a University lab as a researcher. I currently work for the University of Sheffield as a Programme Manager, which involves working closely with academic researchers on a large project aimed at improving the sustainability and wellbeing of social care.
I have experience tutoring both AS and A2 Level Biology, to the new AQA specification.
During my PhD and while working as a researcher I developed and delivered short, practical workshops to a wide audience, from primary school children through secondary school at GCSE and A-Level, and to the general community at outreach days. I have also supervised Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, demonstrated in University practical classes and lectured to UG and Masters level.
