I think that Mathematics is a beautiful subject because it is a universal language in which we can solve problems.

I strive to provide a stimulating learning environment for my students through detailed lesson preparation, friendly communication, and constructive feedback on progress.

I completed my doctoral studies specialising in pure mathematics at Royal Holloway in July 2017. I am also knowledgeable about some applied areas including discrete maths, cryptography and statistics.

Tutoring experience:

Mathematics Tutor – FoundationCampus London, Birkbeck (Sep 2017 – present)

Mathematics Tutor – Royal Holloway International Study Centre (Apr 2017 – Aug 2017)

I completed my doctoral studies specialising in pure mathematics at Royal Holloway in July 2017. I am currently based at Birkbeck working part-time as a Maths Tutor for FoundationCampus London.

Teaching experience

Mathematics Tutor – FoundationCampus London, Birkbeck (Sep 2017 – present)

• Delivering 6-12 hours of seminar style teaching each week in Level 3 mathematics to international students of different abilities, with class sizes ranging from 7 to 25+.

• Creating, invigilating and grading formative and summative assessments.

• Maintaining course webpages on Moodle.

• Conducting 1-to-1 feedback sessions with students.

• Writing termly reports on student progress.

• Writing UCAS references.

Mathematics Tutor – Royal Holloway International Study Centre (Apr 2017 – Aug 2017)

• Delivered 4 hours of classroom based teaching each week in Level 3 pure mathematics and statistics to 4 international students.

• Created, invigilated and graded formative and summative assessments.

• Maintained the course webpage on Moodle.

• Wrote a student module handbook.

Teaching Assistant – Department of Mathematics, Royal Holloway (Jan 2014 – Mar 2016)

• Conducted workshops for first and second year undergraduate courses in statistics, which involved independently monitoring a set of approximately 15 undergraduate students working through a problem sheet to be solved using statistical software called Minitab.

• Graded numerous homework assignments for first and second year undergraduate courses and used Moodle to record the grades.

Education

PhD Mathematics – Royal Holloway (2013 – 2017)

Awarded the Reid Scholarship

Title of thesis: The Davenport constant of finite abelian groups

Supervisor: Professor Simon R. Blackburn

The main results in my thesis revolve around investigating a long-standing conjecture about a particular class of groups. I prove the conjecture for a new group, verify it for a class of groups for which it was previously known, and provide general results directed at proving the conjecture for an infinite class of groups. The techniques that I use to establish the results in my thesis use a mixture of non-computational methods and computational algorithms.

I have spoken about my research via a presentation at the following:

• British Combinatorial Conference (Jul 2017 – University of Strathclyde)

• Interactions with Combinatorics workshop (Jun 2017 – University of Birmingham)

• Mathematics/ISG PhD Seminar (Jul 2016 – Royal Holloway)

• Number Theory Seminar (Nov 2015 – Royal Holloway)

• PhD Mini Conference (May 2014 – Royal Holloway)

I presented a poster entitled ‘The Davenport Constant’ at:

• The 1ST IMA Conference on Theoretical and Computational Discrete

Mathematics (Mar 2016 – University of Derby)

MSci Mathematics – King’s College London (2007 – 2011)

First Class Honours

Awarded ‘The John Tyrrell prize for the most meritorious performance in Mathematics by a 2nd year student’

Selected modules: Algebraic Geometry (96%), Operator Theory (95%), Probability & Statistics II (90%), Linear Algebra (89%), Probability & Statistics I (89%), Partial Differential Equations and Complex Variable (88%), Analysis I (85%), Linear Methods (82%), Mathematical Finance I Discrete Time (82%), Groups & Symmetries (80%), Real Analysis II (80%).

Title of Master’s project: Cryptography

Supervisor: Professor Fred Diamond

I explored basic cryptosystems based on substitution ciphers as well as advanced concepts such as the RSA system, Diffie-Hellman system and zero-knowledge protocols.

A-Levels – La SWAP Sixth Form (2005 – 2007)

Mathematics (A), Art & Design (A), Further Mathematics (B).
