I encourage students to learn independent researching skills and critical thinking early on, providing a good grounding for self-directed learning. I use the student's own interests to shape the context of sessions, and take time to listen to the barriers which are holding a student back. A usual session might start with a topic overview, some talk-through problems, and a short homework.
I have been teaching in Further and Higher education for over twenty years. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and hold a teaching certificate.
My A-level students have gone on to study at university, my degree students have passed their courses, and several M-level tutees have gained distinctions. I have taught many young people and adults a variety of subjects, including GCSE and A-Level Biology and Law, as well as degree students in medicine, law, philosophy and medical ethics.
I passed my PhD this year (Keele University) on the topic of religion and medical treatment.

Perfect! Helpful and informative sessions that helped me with my Healthcare Law and Ethics essay. Thank you Sam.
Natasha was very engaged and enthusiastic about the topic. I liked the way she responded positively to feedback and her interest in applying the topic to practical concerns.
