I have a BSc (Hons) in Applied Sport Science, Merit in my MSc in Sport and Exercise Science and a Pass in the PGCE qualification (all at Teesside University). Started my PhD this October (2019), investigating the Sedentary Lifestyles of the Tees Valley. Alongside this I will be researching and publishing work into Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs and Esports.
My passion is for Sport Science which has led to additional interests incorporating Sports Psychology, Body Dysmorphia, AAS, Esports, IPEDs, Doping and Strength and Conditioning. Within these respective fields, I have a passion for Strength Training, Fitness Testing, Periodisation and Tapering. 6/18 – 6/19 President Activities of Teesside University Student’s Union
This role involves providing academic representation, welfare advice, retail outlet and social activities to the students at Teesside University. My role covered the following areas within the university; International Students, Sports Clubs, Societies, AU tour, Well Being, Careers and Volunteering. I sat on the following boards; University Board of Governors, Students Union Board of Trustees and the Physical Activity Board.
9/14 - Ongoing Teesside University Gym Instructor for Sport and Well Being
My duties included showing members of the public how to use the gym equipment safely and correctly. Maintain a tidy gym which meets health and safety standards. Design personal exercise programmes to all members of the gym, taking into account what they want to achieve, whether it being a specific sports performance goal or body fat reduction. Assist all members of staff ensuring the building is safe and equipment is maintained to a high standard. Fitness testing, including body fat percentage (skin fold calipers), blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, peak flow, grip test and sit & reach (Over 1100 hours worked).

Teaching placements during PGCE 2017 - 2018
As part of my PGCE qualification I was expected to log and complete teaching hours to attain the qualification. These placements were across an array of ages and educational establishments within the Middlesbrough region. These included; The Teesside Barbarians Powerlifting club (43 hours) (outside of the PGCE I have coached the club nearly 400 hours), Teesside University Sports Science Department (67.5 hours) and Recovery Connections (through the Live Well Center) (156.75 hours). I completed the PGCE with 267.25 hours.

Strength is Never a Weakness Blog
I am the founder and owner of this blog site. Made in 2014, it is nearing 100 published blog posts, multiple guest athletes/writers contributing to the site and is just shy of 135,000 views. It is dedicated to the education of athletes, coaches and sports scientists in the pursuit of knowledge. Array of topics that all apply to an array of sports in their rehab, prehab, nutrition, peaking, competitions, psychology, sports science and S&C.
Guest Writer and Sports Reporting
Since 2014, I have written articles for many websites covering a range of topics related to sport. Sites include; The Economist, Monster Supplements, Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) (live TV interview), Ulster Rugby (placement during school and had a feature about it). Ireland Strength and Conditioning, Anti – Doping Science (Podcast), Powerlifting Ireland (regular columnist), Jay Farrant Strength and Conditioning (regular columnist). Other notable sites include, EliteFTS, Powerlifting University and Ambition Athletics. I am proficient with e-blogger and WordPress sites for blogging. During my A – Level PE, I produced notational analysis on athlete’s game statistics. This covered, tackles made, successful passes, comparisons to other players, comparisons to good examples of practice etc. From my role as President Activities, I worked with TUXtra society organising Wednesday meetings for all their members to each of the sports teams to ensure they got covered and students were placed to gain experience. This would have been BUCS Wednesday games, cup finals, Varsity and or elite athlete interviews.
Course Structure and Degree Consultation

Alongside this degree, I was asked to provide evidence and suggestions to the revision of the BSc Sport Science degree at Teesside University. My work was submitted to act as supporting evidence at the course approval event in 2019. For more information on my work please contact Dan Eaves, course lead for the BSc Sport Science degree. For this academic year (2019/20), I will be assisting in the developing/teaching on the teaching exercise module alongside Will Short (meeting next week).
6-7/2016 Irish National Team – Junior Squad Member (2 months)
I was a part of the Irish National squad as a Junior athlete (under 23 years of age). I have represented my country on two occasions; 1st; Texas World Championships (June 2016) 2nd; Belarus World Universitiy Championships (July 2016). I placed 19th in the Senior men’s 105kg class in Texas at the World Championships and placed 5th at the World Universities. At the World Universities I picked up two 3rd places in the Squat and Deadlift. Overall in 2016 I was ranked 48th/112th athletes across all ages in my weight class.
5/15-2016 Sportsman of the Year at Teesside University Students’ Union. I have been awarded Sportsman of the Year 2015 and 2016 by Teesside University Students Union. In 2017 I was nominated again for this award.
