I take a pupil-focused approach to lessons, which means that I focus on utilising each pupil's strengths to attend to areas for improvement. I like to improvise around the material which the pupil brings from school, to make the learning fun and engaging.
Since graduating with a 2:1 in Philosophy from Kings College, London, I first worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Phoenix Academy, specialising in assisting SEN pupils in English classes from years 7 to 11. Since then I have tutored two pupils in London with their English Language and Literature exams, whilst working in various supply roles in primary and secondary schools.
Since returning from an extended period of travel I have worked in various supply roles in primary and secondary schools, particularly with SEN pupils. I obtained a 2:1 in BA Philosophy from Kings College London in 2017, after switching from an English degree at Leicester University, where I consistently obtained a 2:1 in assignments.
After leaving Kings College, and prior to travelling, I worked for 9 months in the SEN Department of Phoenix Academy (a secondary school) as a Graduate Teaching Assistant specialising in English classes. This entailed assisting all pupils in classes where the greatest SEN need had been identified.
In 2017 I obtained a qualification to teach P4C ('Philosophy for Children'), using the Philosophy Foundation's 'Socratic Method' of facilitating discussion, which is very helpful in generating ideas from pupils themselves.
In 2014 I obtained a CELTA qualification to teach English as a Foreign Language from International House, and have since taught students foreign students from ages 11 to 21 in summer camps.
