My teaching method is based specifically on how the student feels they learn best. It is rooted in personal experience with the subject and my teaching style is also enthusiastic, energetic and yet relaxed, with the subjects broken down into manageable chucks. It doesn't matter what level you are currently at with your studies, I will work with the student to develop a rounded base of knowledge in either sociology or philosophy, and will pay extra attention to those areas that a student is struggling with.
I am a disability support worker at my university, my role being that I am a note taker. As a result I have developed a keen understanding of the different learning styles of different individuals and am able to cater their own personal style of learning. I also run an essay clinic in the university, to help improve essay writing skills and give top up sessions in the exam period in both philosophy and sociology to help round the knowledge base of students before exams. I have just completed my BA in a Philosophy and Sociology Combined Honours degree, with experience of both traditional book study and field work as is required in sociology.
For help with writing essays, a single fee of £7 will be added onto the lesson total. This is not subject to hourly rates.
I have been studying Philosophy and Sociology for six years, from A-Level all the way up to Undergraduate Level at university. I have just graduated from my Combined Honours Philosophy and Sociology degree and will be studying an MA (Masters) in European Philosophy come September. My personal average grade is a high 2:1, though three of my essays have been marked as 1st, with one of those being marked at 80%, which in academic terms makes it publishable.
I have three years of experience working with students on their own courses as a note taker and two years experience running essay clinics and revision workshops for students within my own course.
I know Olivia through an essay work shop she ran at my university and I found out she is a brilliant tutor. She helped me with essay structure so my work went from a jumbled mess to coherent. She helped me focus on the areas I struggled with so I improved in those areas, but she also made sure I didn't forget about the other things that I was good at, so I became a better student all round.
She is eager and passionate about philosophy and sociology and is knowledgeable in both subjects. She helped me get my grades up by a whole band, so I went from a 2:2 to a 2:1 with her help. She got me excited about what I was learning which really helped me, helped me develop personal note taking tools so that I understood my own notes from lectures better and she helped me develop revision tools so that I could remember what I had learned.
She doesn't really worry about someone's skill level, it doesn't matter if you have never studied philosophy or sociology before, she is just as capable of teaching you from the ground up, as she is at making sure you have all your bases covered if you already study the subject.
Olivia has been a fantastic tutor. The words I write cannot even begin to explain how much having her help in a subject she’s is not even familiar with has helped with a shown improvement in my grades. I have gone from scraping 40% to getting solid 60/75%. She is encouraging and motivational. I could not think of anyone else I would want study help from (I usually can never bother) but Olivia motivated you and teaches you with the method you use best. Whenever anyone has asked for help, I will always refer him or her to Olivia, as she is genuinely the smartest person I have met. If you have the chance to get her help, grab it with both hands.
