From my experiences self-teaching my Maths and Physics A-levels I have a first-hand understanding of the obstacles students can face. Beginning with firm foundations, I work with students to build the intuition and confidence needed to explore these fascinating subjects.
I have been tutoring for two years both face-to-face and online and have good experience teaching students with different goals, from exam focus to general interest.
I completed my Maths and Physics A-levels as an external candidate in the summer of 2017. I am now completing my Physics undergraduate at Royal Holloway University, where I also run Physics workshops for young people through SouthEast Physics Network (SEPnet). I have also been a teaching assistant for foundation year (intermediate between A-level and degree-level) students in mathematics and physics for the past academic year.
I have found that my tuition style is best suited for those pursuing a university degree in maths or physics as I try to stress the formality and rigour necessary for a deep understanding of these topics, often beyond what is required by the usual Secondary/Further Education syllabuses.
Possible travel costs to be discussed on a case-by-case basis. First lesson is orientation and will be unlikely to contain any tuition.
I am currently in my final year of undergraduate physics at the Royal Holloway University of London and I am currently courting universities at which to undertake my masters; I plan to complete a PhD in theoretical physics and begin a career as a professional theorist.
My teaching style is centred on building firm foundations of understanding; I have found that often the difficulties students face in tackling new material can be traced back to a poor understanding of basic concepts and I therefore focus heavily on these. It is my belief that time invested in building these foundations pays dividends in the end as it makes it much easier for students to both learn the new material and remember the old.
As a mature student I spent time in the working world before undertaking my current academic programme; as a result of this time, I understand the value of pride and professionalism at work. I pledge to exemplify both these attributes as a tutor to any prospective pupil.
