This depends on the stage the student is at:
If at the beginning any deadlines will first be noted. This will help establish self-set deadlines for the different sections of the dissertation and set a pace for the rate of work. I then like to go through a checklist of what is needed within the dissertation itself.
If part through or finished, I like to receive a copy before hand to review the work as well as the requirements of the dissertation from the school/university. This review will include a checking of the structure of the work, the readilibility (errors such as repeated words, half finished sentences), as well as referencing. Specifically the language used will be analysed to remove non scientific language.
I am a Masters level physics student with experience with writing an extended essay during the IB, I also received a first class for my undergraduate extended essay.
I have reviewed numerous dissertations all at am undergraduate and Masters level. These included dissertations structured as literature reviews and scientific papers, some were based on practical experiments while others used results produced by computer models.
I also have experience in reviewing code used to produce the results and helping to clean up the code before submission.
