A big part of my teaching techniques for kids is to make sure they have fun, to make sure that they fall in love with music, instead of having music being a burden to them at an early age. The method books that I use involves a lot of fun activities when introducing a new concept, as well as some pop, jazz and familiar tunes to keep them engaged.
I emphasize on training my students on these most important skills: technique, reading, theory, history. I do this to make sure that my students are independent, and can be their own teachers when they are on their own. They are encouraged to enroll on competitions and ABRSM exams, to train their performance skills from the very start.
I will train their musicianship and emphasize on their logical and analytical skills, so they can apply the concepts of musicianship that is taught to everything they play. My intermediate students will be encouraged to enroll on competitions, concerts, and ABRSM exams, to train their performance skills.
My advanced students will work on a full length concert program, and will be performing in concerts to prepare them for exams or auditions. They will learn pieces from each genre: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, Contemporary and also etude work.
I have been teaching piano performance, music theory, music history and composition for eight years for students of all levels ranging from 4 years old to high school students preparing to audition for an Undergraduate in music.
I teach both privately as well as part of faculty in the Clavier Music Academy, Yamaha Junior Masterclass, and Manhattan School of Music.
I hold a Masters of Music from Royal Academy of Music and Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music, minoring in piano pedagogy.
If you are interested to enroll to an ABRSM (Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music) curriculum and exams, it will most definitely be an option, as I have been preparing my students for it and they have been awarded with a distinction.
Looking forward to make some music with you!
Janice's extensive knowledge in music theory and passion had helped me throughout my journey in turning a hobby into a career. She motivated me to improve my technique and gave me pointers in composing. And here I am doing what I love for a living thanks to Janice. So, whatever level in piano you are, I believe that Janice will be able to take you further!
I took lessons with Janice a few months ago. Was very impressed with her professionalism and how she made the lessons fun and enjoyable! Definitely got me from lukewarm about piano to a self-professed piano enthusiast. She made every lesson detailed and even though I was a beginner, I can tell she could teach all levels. I’m in not in London anymore but if I were I’d definitely keep taking lessons with Janice.
Janice is an extremely talented pianist and has composed a few originals on her own. I have known her personally for years, attended her concerts and even accompanied her practise at home. She’s incredibly dedicated and enthuasistic in passing on her talent to those in need of her help. I would definitely recommend Janice any day.
