I am quite creative through my teaching, using always games, composition and improvisation during my lessons. I think playing music is mostly a way of creative thinking than a skill and I involve several techniques into my lessons depended on the studend and his/her (career) intentions. I teach piano beginners to degree level, music theory/aural training, and flute beginners to intermediate level.
I have experience in teaching music theory to pre-school children and one year experience in piano teaching. Currently I am preparing for flute ABRSM exams and I would be happy to give some flute lessons, too. I love teaching beginners of all ages.
I was born in 1989 in Corfu (Greece), where I was educated. After the University Entrance
exams, I signed on at the Music Department of the Ionian University of Corfu, in 2007, where I
completed my studies on July 2015. I chose to specialize in composition with the professor Mr. D.
Maragopoulos and at the same time I studied the horn with the professor Mr. A. Lagos. Parallel to
this I was studying at the Apollonio conservatory of Athens for a degree in piano and in
counterpoint. In June 2006, after being examined, I was awarded the degree in harmony with
excellence.
From 1999 I have been an active member of the Philharmonic Band of Corfu, where I play
the french horn and I have performed since then in all the concerts. From the year 2007 I have taken
part in the concerts organized by the Philharmonic Band of Skripero as a flutist. I have followed the
seminars of Summer Academy of the Ionian University in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2015 (which were
about composition and composition in connection with the performing arts), with Ph. Cashian, K.
Gourgi, S. Milstein, D. Maragopoulos, D. Trypani, H. Xanthoudakis, E. Sammoutis and M. Stroppa
and also a seminar on Ancient Greek music with E. Poehlmann and P. Vlagopoulos. In 2008 I
attended a seminar on contemporary flute practices with Wil Offermans and in January 2011 I took
part in a french horn seminar with H. Mc Donald.
During the academic year 2011-2012 I attended two-term courses in the University of York
with T. Simaku, W. Brooks, N. Sorrell and M Garrard, through LLP/Erasmus programme. Since
2012 I am a member of the greek “cinematic post-rock” band named Deadfile playing the horn,
trumpet and flute and singing the backing vocals, as well. During 2014-2015 I recorded for our new
album and several projects in collaboration with young video artists and directors.
An the end of the summer semester (2015) I gave a presentation of my final projects on
music composition and performing arts, including a stop-motion video and a contemporary dancetheatre
performance. With those projects I completed my studies in the Department of Music
Studies in the Ionian University of Corfu. During academic years 2015 – 2016 I completed an MA
in Contemporary Performance Practices at the Drama Department of the Royal Holloway,
University of London and as a part of my studies, I did a research on composed theatre and specific
works of John Cage and Jani Christou.
Recently, I applied for a PhD position at the University of York with a specification in
Composition and Musical Theatre.
I know German and I hold the Zertificat Deutsch of the Goethe Institut and English to the
level of proficiency and I am a holder of the Certificate of Proficiency in English of the University
of Michigan.
