Piano Teacher Tarporley | Piano Lessons Kelsall

I enjoy teaching the piano to pupils of all ages . I teach children from six years upwards and adults of all ages . My approach is fun and motivating for both adults and children.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I am trained as a classical piano teacher.I enter students for grade examinations through the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, (ABRSM).

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a certificate in teaching teaching the piano ,Cert Teach ABRSM (piano) ,which I attained attending courses at the Royal Northern School of Music,Manchester and at the Pimlico Academy , London. I have grade eight practical piano (London Board) , grade five music theory (ABRSM) and grade 5 flute. During my first Degree I attained credits in music modules. At Post Graduate level I have a Masters Degree in Education ,M.Ed. from Manchester Victoria University ,which focused on special needs in education and where I researched the use of music to help children with their movement . I also have a PhD attained whilst lecturing at Salford University where I researched child development issues.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £12.50 for half and hour and £25 per hour . Sometimes parents prefer their children to have a three quarter hour lesson (cost of £18.75) which I can accommodate in my timetable.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home in Tarporley. Where a student prefers to learn on their own piano or has a special need and finds it difficult to visit a tutor I have a peripatetic service on certain days. My location is convenient for Northwich, Middlewich, Winsford, Kelsall, Utkinton areas .

- When are you available?

I am available week days by negotiation. I aim to have a flexible approach to my timetable although most students have a permanent lesson time each week.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach children from age six onwards , from beginners to grade 7 practical ( piano ) , grade 5 theory. Adult pupils of all ages are very welcome and I currently teach several adults some of which enjoy taking examinations.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students for ABRSM practical piano grade examinations from prep test level to grade 7 practical ( piano ) grade 5 theory .

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I believe that music is for everyone to enjoy whatever their level of skill or knowledge and I aim to make piano lessons a fun and motivating experience whilst developing each student to their fullest potential .

- What kind of experience do you have?

Children: I very much enjoy teaching children from beginner to grade level practical ( piano)and grade 5 theory . In general I teach school age children from age 6 upwards although my youngest pupil is four and a half ! The correct starting age depends on each individual and I have had beginners of all ages.Children often like to take examinationsas it gives them a goal and improves their playing.

I mainly use the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to enter pupils for examinations.I enter pupils ( children and adults)for grade examinations when they are ready ( grades 1-7 ABRSM ) and use a variety of repertoire and study books to help them with their piano technique.I have had several families who enjoy learning together and parents and children may be working towards the same examination.

.For young beginners I have developed resources which help children to focus in on the piano using visual cues and motivate them by using puppets, singing and stories

Special needs . I have an interest in teaching children /adults with special needs and am developing a client base where I have developed resources to help children and adults with special needs to access the piano.

Adults. I enjoy teaching adults and aim to be approachable in my teaching style taking into account any prior knowledge although non is necessary. Adults can be underconfident and I believe it is especially important to set goals together have fun and motivate by using appropriate repertoire. I have taught adult beginners with no previous musical experience to distinction level at grade 1 within their first year of learning the piano. However I understand that whilst taking examinations is motivating some adults prefer simply to learn for pleasure.
I enjoy all types of music from popular to classical. I am classically trained but also enjoy playing jazz. My approach to teaching the piano includes an appreciation of enjoying, listening and involving students with music at their own pace. I am also very experienced using music with children with learning difficulties to help them with their holistic development .
As well as teaching the piano I have developed groups which aim to develop musical ability , for young children aged from two years upwards which will help them with their musical development. I teach my current groups in my own music studio. These groups use early pre instrumental skills to help children develop their musical ability. They involve movement , rhymes, stories and use non tuned instruments.
