Hi, I am a composer, orchestrator and music teacher working in London. I'm happy to teach all stages and styles of notated composition (staff notation), as well as theory and tutoring for academic music exams.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach music A level. Although I mainly teach the OCR board I have experience teaching all three of the main boards (Edexcel and AQA).
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Bachelors in composition from the Royal Northern College of Music (1st Class), and a Masters in Advanced Composition from the Royal College of Music.
- How much do you charge?
My hourly rate is £30 per hour. If you would like to have lessons for less than 1 hour at a time I'm happy to negotiate a fee based on my hourly rate.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at students' homes but I can teach from my home in Streatham if this is not suitable.
- When are you available?
I normally teach at a college mid-week mornings but I am fairly flexible outside of this time. I am happy to teach at weekends and school holidays by arrangement.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and stages.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Music As and A2 Level, OCR, AQA and Edexcel. ABRSM Theory up to Grade 5. Individual GCSE and A level composition modules, all boards.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching music A level at Collingham Sixth Form College since 2011 as well as teaching music A level, theory, composition, piano privately. I am a composer, pianist and artistic director for Present Tense where I work with pianist Christopher Guild to promote new music for piano and electronics. I have been composing and preparing scores for performances for over 10 years. My pieces have been performed both in the UK and abroad including at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Peacock Theatre (Saddler's Wells), and Cadogan Hall. In 2011 my Violin Concerto Kreisler, l'entre deux guerres was toured around England by the Britten Sinfonia and the Norwegian Violinist Henning Kraggerud, and was also broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

Yes, through Collingham Sixth Form College.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Northern College of Music with Gary Carpenter. Royal College of Music with Joseph Horovitz (composition) and Kenneth Hesketh (orchestration). Studying music is really an ongoing process so I can't say I've finished studying or learning about music. In 2010 I was a resident composer at La Ville Matte in Teulada (Italy) working with pianist Peter Waters and violinist Valentino Corvino. This year (2014) I was part of the Cheltenham Composers Academy working with composer Peter Weigold and members of Notes Inegales to create new pieces for the Cheltenham Festival.
