About the lesson
CURRENTLY ON MATERNITY LEAVE UNTIL LATE 2023
I am very lucky that I have had a lot of wonderful students contact me through this website and have supported them in a number of ways since April 2020. Some have weekly support and some see me on an ad hoc basis.
I have supported social work students within my workplace as their practice assessor recently meaning I am up to date with university expectations, reflective practice and written work.
My teaching method is a collaborative one which enables the student to reflect upon and grow as a social work practitioner. I am nurturing and honest.
I break down pieces of work/ information into manageable chunks, offer guidance, share knowledge, ask questions to help develop reflective skills, linking theory to practice and a client centred way of practice.
I can offer bespoke tutoring in the following areas:
- specific subject areas for courses or degrees that a student may be struggling with.
-proof reading assignments, essays or dissertations.
-breaking down assignment or exam criteria. Supporting with what to cover, learning objectives and onward signposting to reading resources.
-preparing for practice placement
-legislation and policy lessons
- Developing reflective practice and critical analysis skills
I can also discuss specific needs and we can also create a plan together.

About Katy
I qualified as a social worker in 2012 with a First Class Honours degree. I have completed my ASYE programme, practice educator award and now in a senior position at a specialist child and adolescent mental health setting working with parents and young children or babies within a attachment disorder service. This involves specialist assessment, report writing to courts and therapeutic interventions to break cycles of inter-generational abuse, trauma and neglect.
I have experience of working in a range of fields including:
child protection teams (front line practice and managing a team)
court work
older adults
Children looked after
CAMHS
Attachment and trauma services
I have completed commissioned pieces of work for the NSPCC including gangs, modern slavery, operation yewtree and also helped to set up a child protection helpline in Northern Ireland.
I am an ABE trained social worker and have also completed PPEP (psychological perspectives in education and primary care) training to deliver this within my current role to a range of professionals to develop their knowledge in mental health and how to support children experiencing these difficulties.
I now teach professionals on a range of mental health subjects and specialisms as part of my current role. I offer therapy to patients and in a group setting. I have vast knowledge in attachment and developmental trauma. I am also qualified to deliver DBT informed skills, MBT (mentalisation based therapy), NET, VIG and CBT informed practice.
My experience within a mental health setting and the above therapies also give me the skills to support students who may be anxious, stressed or failing. I am available to offer support and coaching if required too.

Katy is a great tutor, I have had a number of lessons with her to help with my analysis skills and feeling more confident preparing for exams. I didn’t feel rushed. I was supported and it’s clear she is knowledgable as a social worker. Thanks so much!
I’ve had 4x tutor sessions with Katy. She has helped me to prepare for my final statutory placement and a law exam. I have found Katy to be helpful in developing my knowledge and my confidence with social work practice. Katy has also helped me link theory to practice, which I struggled with during previous placements!
I have known Katy most of my life. Katy is ambitious, and dedicated, with the strong desire to succeed In everything she does.
