My teaching method is to unlock a student at any level’s unique form of expression through giving them the basic building blocks to form their own music. This is done through the basics such as basic chord shapes, scales and beginner harmony/theory (I encourage not too much theory when learning, the guitar really does breathe through the player and their expression, not solely through musicianship, proficiency or knowledge)
It goes without saying my methodology revolves massively around the student and what they want to get out of it, IE from ripping a fat, flash solo to learning to cover a Phoebe Bridges ballad.
I mainly teach through patterns when it comes to harmony and subsequent muscle memory, IE: what sounds right to you! This involves physical patterns on the fretboard similar to the CAGED system.
I am a musician and a full time music student at Goldsmiths. I have been playing guitar for almost a decade, i think of myself as more of a songwriter/expressionist rather than a guitarist. Yet my versatility in musicianship through experience and trial & error has made me the competent musician I am today. It is obviously impossible to teach this hands on way that I learnt, yet what I aim to do is path the way for a student to express themselves in any musical means necessary with the right tools .
