My teaching method is very much based on a student-centered approach. This is inquiry based, cooperative learning with emphasis on reciprocity. My role is supportive providing guidance throughout the learning process, rather than as sole authority figure. I tailor the lessons for each individual student through differentiated work and tasks. The lessons alternate between instruction and lecture and discussion and feedback. I would describe my role as facilitator and delegator encouraging students to be active and autonomous. Student progress is consistently measured during teacher instruction, as opposed to objectively scored tests and assessments.
I studied Film Theory And Criticism and English Literature at Under-graduate level. I then completed a Post-graduate degree (Masters) in FIlm Theory And Criticism (Commendation).
I have worked in the education sector for over ten years as a Learning Support Assistant at a Secondary School. The role was to assist in the inclusion and support of pupils with special educational needs (SEN register). It involved helping pupils aged 11-16 years old learn as effectively as possible across the curriculum (differentiated work, for example), writing daily reports on their progress and carrying out specific duties outlined in their IEPs.
I also lectured in A/AS level Psychology, introducing and helping develop students' analytical and critical skills in regards to psychological concepts and theories. Simultaneously, I provided additional tutoring for two A-level Film Studies students.
