I teach students of all ages, from 7 to 77! My task, as a teacher, is to adapt to my students' interests and needs, to create classes they not only enjoy but which give them confidence to express themselves in a new language.
I use a wide range of methods, books and supports (videos, films, podcasts, websites etc.) to make the class engaging and to give a break from grammar. I provide a list of reference books and links and, where necessary, detailed teaching programmes.
If you are passionate about cars or wines, our lessons will revolve around those topics. If you are a movie buff, I will encourage you to read movies and magazines in the language you're learning because it means half the work is done already in terms of comprehension. I even did a cooking lesson in French once in my own kitchen! Whatever it takes...
I always start by explaining what language means and what are the key differences between French and other languages, because I believe my students need to understand the logic of a language before studying it. I focus in equal measure on speaking, listening, reading and writing, to ensure an even and more effective learning process.
What I enjoy the most is what I call the ‘light-bulb moments’, when students speak, forgetting the fact that they are using a different language and, floored by the realisation a couple of sentences later, break into a huge grin. In other words, I teach to empower my students with languages and make them independent, confident speakers.
‘Caroline makes me feel engaged and supported. Her classes are fun and, with her, grammar becomes easy! I now feel confident enough to converse with native speakers.’
‘Caroline completely built up my confidence and inspired me to really want to learn French and keep on learning it. I learnt so much in such a short amount of time, I wish she could be my teacher for ever.’
Don't hesitate to send me a message if you have any questions.
