I have a passion for seeing progress in my students, but more than this, if the tutor is passionate it helps the student learn! My teaching style is relaxed but structured, first discovering what areas are weakest (whether through lack of confidence or confusion on the subject) and from there to help build confidence in the student so that they can see their improvement and become independent learners.
Certain areas in History and in particular English Literature can be tricky to understand - I like to make sure that all lessons are accessible - and also to let the student know that we are there to help each other. No student should be too nervous to question whatever the tutor says, and this is the best way to learn.
Above all I want any student to feel their progress and achievements are theirs alone, and if I can help them grow a passion for something they once disliked, all the better!
I have experience in teaching from the ages of six to eleven for over eight years as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, which included both gifted pupils and those who needed a lot of help to improve. I have many years experience working with autistic and challenging pupils. After eight years in this role I left to pursue a History degree at the University of Cambridge. From my dual backgrounds, and my excellent results prior to this in English Literature, I can teach all curriculum subjects to the age of 11, alongside English Literature and History to A Level.
