In our first free lesson we will begin to get to know each other and discuss what areas of learning you need support in so that we can clarify the objectives and desired learning outcomes and decide upon an appropriate approach. (It may be appropriate to additionally speak with the parent/carer of any child or young person at this stage as appropriate.)
In order to set up a bespoke programme, I will usually focus initially on the identification of the tutee's profile of skills/knowledge which will inform the design of future sessions. I believe that tutoring sessions should be well structured and pacey, but also varied and interactive so that they fully engage the learner's participation.
At the end of each session (plenary) we will reflect on the learning that has taken place and identify the progress made. This will inform next steps and/or tasks for the tutee to complete (as appropriate) before the next session and inform the planning of subsequent sessions.
I have recently moved to fully freelance working and looking to take on more tutees and am currently able to work flexibly. At present I can offer sessions during the school day or evenings: Weekend times may also be available if needed.
I hope to hear from you!
I can work online using Skype or negotiate an alternative platform.
I was initially primary trained (with a specialism in French) and have worked across the key stages. I have delivered all of the primary curriculum with subject leadership in music, cooking (food technology) and of course French! I have been a Primary School Assistant Head Teacher and SENCo. Additionally, I have worked in the secondary sector in the areas of SEN support, English and French.
I have worked in the special school sector and led on literacy, specifically reading including phonics (I am SOUNDSWRITE trained) and comprehension. I worked with children with SLCN and ASD and then with pupils with SLD and PMLD.
At this time I had a dual role and also worked in mainstream schools as a specialist advisor building capacity for the provision for pupils with MLD, SLD and developmental delay. I have worked extensively with children with Down Syndrome.
In more recent years I have completed a Masters Degree in Special and Inclusive Education and moved into working in the university sector. Firstly I delivered the work in the Award for SEN co-ordination at Masters level and then changed roles to my most recent post as Senior Lecturer in Teacher Development where I trained aspiring teachers (both UG and PG) focusing on SEN, Primary Languages, Food Technology and SLCN along with academic writing.
I am now working freelance and - in addition to tutoring, I provide educational resources and training packages for trainee and new teachers and SENCos.
I love learning and love to make a difference! With my breadth of experience, I am sure that I can offer effective support and encouragement to support you on your learning journey.
