Primary School teacher offering general support in 7-11 years age range in general academic subjects

Methodology

I teach on Skype and am used to online tutoring, with lessons as far afield as having students in India, Hong Kong and Bahrain (but mostly in the UK!). I keep my lessons with a pace, using questions and interaction to make sure the children are understanding. Homework is set and marked via email. Assessment is used at the end of units to info

Background

I am a qualified teacher with a specialist Primary Education certificate, I have been qualified for 30 years (nearly!) and have experience in a range of schools and educational settings. Skilled with special needs (including extra help for Gifted children) I am a friendly and approachable teacher who quickly gets the best out of your children. I also am a podcaster who does a storytelling podcast for children (check out on Google - Mark Craster-Chambers podcast ) and so my lessons are are always engaging. I offer support in all primary based subjects.

Brief Overview.

I have management experience in four schools – through to Deputy Level. I have extensive experience in SEN: which has focussed upon teenagers with behavioural problems and mental health problems- I also have extensive experience of working with autistic children and those with Down Syndrome. I have worked with the outreach team- teaching children who have been unable to attend regular school for a variety of reasons (chronic fatigue syndrome, drug related concerns, pregnancy etc).

I have a vast range of experience, wonderful communication skills and superb subject knowledge.
I have been a Head of Department in three schools, run and adult education centre, been an Assistant Head Teacher in a High School and run a year group in Spain. In my role as a Head of Department I have been, at different times, a Department Head of Literacy, for History and for Humanities, this has included work within the state system and the independent sector. Many times I have re-invented myself, gaining experience in special schools for children with mental health and behaviour concerns, and now as a teacher of IELTS working with refugees and those requiring residency status in the UK.

Therefore, I have actually through my career worked with all age groups from 4yrs-adult (I was originally primary trained). I have also been a successful private tutor and still work through Fleet tutors with children who are not attending school, being educated in care homes; additionally, I work through TutorHub as an online tutor, where I teach children/teenagers all over the world through to A level – I currently have a number of students taking A Levels in History and Government/Politics as well as adult learners of Business Studies and Economics.

As an Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Adult Education Centre I have run INSET for staff, re-organised curricula within my department, controlled budget and supported my colleagues. I am adept in the use of ICT, working part-time as a researcher for Ivory Research, and a writer for CGP Books.

In regard to my own subject knowledge, I am a published author. My most recent book was released in 2015 when I wrote a biography on King Harold Harefoot, the Saxon monarch.

My skills in communication can be witnessed by the fact that I have a successful podcast on iTunes called ‘The Teller.’ In this I tell stories and enjoy connecting to my subscribers.

I enjoy my job, as a department head I would organise trips (to London and the Houses of Parliament, to the WW1 Battlefields etc) and made history interactive and ‘real.’ I am passionate about my subject, although as seen by my cv I have considerable experience teaching English Language and Literature as well. I have used target data, plotting areas to develop within the department and as an exam marker for the University of Cambridge have been constantly updated in regard to the examinations. With my special needs experience and additional skills in regard to teaching ESL I have many capabilities, which would make me ideal for you.

I hope that I have the opportunity to meet you and discuss things. I am an exciting and talented teacher, with a real desire to innovate and make every individual excel. When in High Schools I was known as the teacher who would make the D grade student get their C. I want to work with you, am inspired about this job. I wanted this job, I really hope to join you.

Additional – A strong communicator, very flexible in regard to work. I creative and love all aspects of the arts – taking stories out to the young.
