Primary School Teacher offering tutoring across several curricular areas in Paisley.

Methodology

I like to adapt my methodology to the needs of each student, therefore I like to listen to the students' aims and needs. I often use an Active Learning approach to teaching where the child is an active participant in their learning. Games and activities are used to ensure learning is enjoyable and memorable. My approach encourages children not to worry about making mistakes, as these mistakes are valuable in their learning journey. They should focus on working hard and trying their best.

Experience

I have a degree in Primary Education (with teaching qualification) and have experience working in schools in Scotland. I have taught children working at Early, First and Second level. I have also taught English as a foreign language in Vietnam and Thailand and have TEFL qualification.

SKILLS
4 years into my career as an Educator I have experience working in both Scotland and Vietnam. I am a reflective practitioner and I have had a great deal of learning since completing university. I have a good knowledge of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and a range of curriculums used in Vietnam. The vastly different school systems have allowed me to develop a range of approaches. Crucial to any learning environment is an inclusive, positive and motivational ethos. I have achieved this through planning, assessment, classroom organisation and most importantly through the development of relationships.

EXPERIENCE
VpBox, Hai Duong - English as a Foreign Language Teacher
August 2019 - Present
My key responsibilities include planning and implementing engaging and exciting English lessons for more than 20 classes each week.
Alongside planning I spend a great deal of time researching new methods of teaching and classroom management. This is both online research and through professional dialogue with other foreign teachers.
I work collaboratively with Vietnamese teachers and teaching assistants to ensure coherent learning experiences for students.
St. Fergus Primary, Paisley - Class Teacher (Primary 3/4)
October 2018 - June 2019 (Maternity Cover)
One of my key achievements this year was in improving parental engagement. Throughout the year parents would receive 2 interim reports and 1 extended report on their child alongside 2 parents meetings. In addition to this I worked with the children to create a class blog, providing parents with daily insights to their child’s learning. The children also used the See-Saw App to share pictures of their learning with the parents. Both the blog and See-Saw were valuable resources for parents but also for children to reflect upon their learning and document their successes.
VpBox, Hai Duong - English as a Foreign Language Teacher
February 2018 - May 2018
Whilst working for VpBox in 2018 I taught in two Public Primary Schools and in a Private Language Centre. This was such a contrast to the experience I had in Scotland. As I would have over 200 students each a week, studying from the earliest stages in their education to those about to complete their high school education.
During my short time working here I learned one commonality between Vietnam and Scotland was the children's love for active learning. Children engage more fully in their education when they are an active participant. Games and songs helped the children to remember vocabulary and grammar.
St. Fergus Primary, Paisley - Class Teacher
August 2016 - October 2017
This was my probationary year in teaching. I had a Primary 3/4 class which I was wholly responsible for planning, assessing and ensuring the health and wellbeing of these children.
Planning was crucial to successful outcomes in class. I learned a lot about planning from my colleagues and my mentor. Planning should show breadth and depth of learning whilst also ensuring progression and challenge for each child.
One of the key drivers in Scottish Education is closing the poverty-related gap in attainment. Bridging this gap meant offering targeted support to individual learners and ensuring the individual needs all learners was being met so that they could achieve their full potential.
EDUCATION
University of Glasgow - Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) with Teaching Qualification in Primary Education (2:1)
September 2012 - May 2016
120 Hour TEFL Course - GA Level 3 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
September 2017
St. Andrew’s Academy (2006-2012) - Scottish Highers

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Whilst in High School I was awarded the John Murphy Award for dedication to voluntary work. This type of work is something that I have continued to be passionate about. For several years I volunteered at a club for adults with additional support needs. Whilst at University I was involved with a charity (ConnectEd) working in Uganda providing classrooms. During my second trip to Uganda I was the group leader in charge of a group of 15.
