Every session I have, I plan for at least 1 hour before-hand to tailor my teaching with how my students learn, their strengths and weaknesses and also their interests (to keep the sessions engaging). I always have short starters and completion tasks to review past subjects or possible weak points, however I ensure these never take up more than 10 minutes each so the main bulk of a session is productive and helps the student to see results and improvements after every session.
I am a tutor who thoroughly loves to help people understand what they are learning, rather than just repeating a method that they have been told. I believe true understanding of a subject allows application of techniques to come naturally, in comparison to copy and repeat methods which force students to have a different technique for every situation.
I was a TA in a sixth-form college's ESOL department for a year and a half. These classes ranged from 8-16 students from all around the world (Poland, Russia, China, Vietnam, Portugal etc). I now also teach English and Maths in Primary schools and GCSE maths in secondary schools and sixth form colleges on a 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 basis. I have also done/also do cover for holiday support sessions in schools, which can have classes of up to 30 students that I am helping to revise and go over topics they are finding challenging.
I have taught privately in the past too. An example of what a student achieved after my private tuition was a girl who had retaken her GCSE maths 3 times and was at an F grade. Her teachers at college had told her to get a C, it would take 2 years because of how far behind she was. Within 2/12 months she was 4 marks off of her C grade and, within 8 months she passed the exam with flying colours. She is now studying nursing at university, as all that was stopping her was her GCSE maths grade.
If the student wants me to travel, but is within 1 mile, the travel cost does not apply.
I am currently an undergraduate studying Japanese and Linguistics. I have an A level in Combined English, Creative Writing, Further Mathematics, Media and an Extended BTEC Diploma in ICT.
Alice has helped me through some of the Maths and English aspects of my university degree using her skills as a tutor. I am very pleased with the way she explains certain topics, which would otherwise be complicated to me.
I have also witnessed firsthand the lengths she will go to in order to prepare for a tutoring session/class; completely tailored to the student being taught.
