My teaching method is to focus on central themes and streamline ideas in order to affect focus clarity and precision. I believe that the key challenge to reading and writing for any kind of theoretical or analytical piece is in deciding what should not be included, rather than to simply present everything. Developing and maintaining this mindset is a useful and valuable transferable skill which can aid students in all other subjects, and indeed all other areas of life.
My classes are normally, light, friendly and open spaces where students should be able to voice their concerns and feel unrestrained in working towards their goals.
I am an editor for an independent newspaper. I have an undergraduate in English Literature and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, and a masters in Anthropology and Development from the School of Oriental and African studies.
I have lived and worked abroad for some years, and have studied Arabic for some years. I have taught various group sizes and abilities in various contexts. I believe in organisation, structure and timing.
My particular strengths are in essay writing, reading for meaning, structure, and organisation. My reading interests are in literature, feminism, political thought and theory, history of philosophy, art and culture. I can aid students with achieving high-grade university level essays (as well as GCSE, A-level).
After the initial lesson, I will deduce the level of support the student is in need of, as well as their expectations in the given time-frame. Once we are clear on goals and expectations, we can move forward on a plan to effectively achieve these.

Believe in providing a warm and encouraging environment where students can explore ideas freely.
Can provide quick and succinct feedback on essay writing.
Experience working one-to-one and in groups.
