Firstly, I access each individual students abilities in our first lesson and get to know their ambitions for the future. This allows me to tailor-make an individual programme for them.
I love to use books by Suzuki if students need to build their fundamentals, and for more advanced students I like to focus on helping them find their own voice through cello.
Hsiao-Ling (or Andrea to her friends) original comes from Taiwan, where she finished her bachelor's degree in Music at National Sun Yat-sen University. While studying, she also played for the Baroque Camarata where she worked with many leading violin soloists such as Cho-Liang Lin, James Buswell, Nai-Yuan Hu and Yu-Chien Tseng.
After moving to Singapore in 2011, she pursued her music career with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Orchestra of Music Makers, while also teaching in schools in her spare time. She eventually went on to study at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (University of Singapore), earning a diploma alongside Leslie Tan and Li-Wei Qin.
In 2014, she moved to Germany to study with Norber Anger, and then later with Prof. Julius Berger in Augsburg. Andrea performed regularly around Bavaria as a soloist and chamber musician, including playing for the Augsburger Philharmoniker (Staatstheater Augsburg) for a year. This valuable experience allowed her to perfect multiple repertoires such as Symphony, Ballet and Operas.
Andrea recently moved to London to be with family and is now looking to inspire the next generation. She is happy to teach in either English, German, Chinese or Taiwanese.
