I can help with exam preparation, aural, sight-reading, and improvisation skills, repertoire, interpretation, technique, and theory. I'm happy to support students no matter their commitment level or pace of learning. Most importantly, though, I look right away to identify with each student their musical interests and goals. I make sure that every student is getting started on playing piano music that they love from the first lesson.
I encourage students to pick their own pieces to play, but I also offer a wealth of materials where requested. For scratch beginners I like to follow John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course in the case of young children and Alfred's All-in-One course for teenagers and adults. For classical learners we can then progress to a varied range of pieces from Grades 1–5 curated by ABRSM exam boards (whether students want to take the actual exams or not) and then tackle Clementi sonatinas, Bach inventions, some of the easier Mozart sonatas and Chopin nocturnes, and Bartok's Mikrokosmos. For jazz learners we can move from exploring content recommended by ABRSM Jazz from Grades 1–5 through to the rich repertoire of jazz standards as set out by the Real Books. For pop and rock learners we can try out simple tunes such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Amazing Grace, and Scarborough Fair before progressing to classic songs by the Beatles and Stevie Wonder or more modern tracks using online resources such as MuseScore and Virtual Sheet Music.
I'm available for ONLINE piano lessons for adults and children across all abilities, styles, and commitment levels. I'm familiar with the whole musical spectrum -- from jazz, through pop, rock, and soul, to classical. I attained a distinction in my ATCL classical piano diploma in 2013, and graduated with a First in Music from the University of Oxford in 2015. In the last five years I've acquired a wealth of experience playing solo piano for private events, as well as in jazz piano trios and wedding party bands across the south of England. I've appeared as a solo and ensemble performer at countless venues, including St George's, Colston Hall, Saint Stephen's, The Fleece, and Piccolino in Bristol, The Coal Exchange in Cardiff, University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Oxford, and Haberdasher's Hall in London. I've also recorded sessions with numerous up-and-coming singer songwriters, notably Mary Spender, Zoe Wren, and Michaela Fedeczko.
