Professional, enthusiastic and fully qualified English Language and Literature teacher. Qualified with an honours degree and a first class dissertation in English Literature.

Methodology

I truly believe that a child's capabilities are endless. As a current English tutor with qualified teacher status, I have experience guiding students every step of the way towards their GCSE exams until they feel confident enough to develop and communicate their own ideas to achieve fantastic grades. As a teacher but also a mother there is nothing more special and fulfilling than seeing a child that you are responsible for use their own initiative to work hard at something, something that takes them out of their comfort zone, something that with a little guidance they can build upon to make their own way in the world. I have a track record of using essential teaching skills such as excellent organisation and time management as proven by my academic and employment record. Another teaching skill that I deem to be a strength is my communication. I understand that at times teaching a child to realise their potential and manage their self-confidence or a negative attitude towards their education can be difficult. However, it can be overcome through various approaches such as assessing their individual needs and creating strategies to assist, motivate and challenge them. I have managed to confront negative attitudes and address the misunderstandings whilst working alongside students who have lacked confidence in their ability to learn English.

Experience

I achieved 14 A*-C GCSEs, I completed 3 A levels in the space of 1 year, I also completed a 2 year BTEC Extended National Diploma in Health and Social Care in 1 year. After my 2 years of college studying hard and endlessly I gained the equivalent of 6 A Levels A*-C.

While at University I threw myself into lots of voluntary work experience in a variety of roles. I have been a teaching assistant to SEN children and year 7 students struggling with the step up from KS2 to KS3. I have mentored first year university students supporting them with their understanding of literary critical theory and writing essays to a degree level standard. I have also been a research room assistant within 3 different archive and local history and information settings. Along side all my voluntary work and my part time employment, my time spent at university resulted in many 1st class essays, including my dissertation, and over the 3 years they never fell below a 2:1.

I have an excellent record of past students with brilliant references and I have Qualified Teacher Status teaching secondary school English Language and Literature.

School and work experience
Establishment or employer name
• Secondary English Language and Literature teacher: I have recent experience working with my own KS3 classes at a local high school. During my time working at the school I have developed my teaching methods and dealt with a variety of students from various backgrounds including SEN, Pupil Premium, Vulnerable and Gifted and Talented students. Training to teach while being immersed in a thriving school environment have supported my development and progression in the field of teaching. My training will be completed in early 2020 and I will have Qualified Teacher Status.

• Ansdell Medical Centre
Receptionist: Communication, verbal and written skills are essential for this job role. An accuracy in detail and confidentiality are also essential at all times. I dealt with patients and their queries, issuing prescriptions, answering the telephone, inputting data, registering new patients and other general reception duties. I liaise with the Coroner, Doctors, Consultants, Social Services, Pharmacists. I carried out other duties as may be required by the Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager.

• English Tutor: As an English Tutor working on a self-employed basis, I have been hired by families to support students through their GCSE English Language and Literature exams. I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside these students and seeking a variety of ways to motivate them and increase their focus to develop their understanding of English. After liaising with their school English teacher and gaining valuable information on the students and their current levels, I create informative, fun lessons.

• Blackpool Aspire Academy
Classroom Observations: During my time observing at the school I attended English classes for KS3 and GCSE level students. I also attended BTEC Performing Arts classes to support the students with their written assignments. While observing I was able to talk to a range of teachers and gather an understanding of the essential skills needed to teach in a high school. Observing how the 'Consequences' policy worked in the school was interesting for my understanding of behaviour management.

• Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Glan Clwyd Hospital
Administrative Assistant: Time Management and Organisation: Covering rotas with GPs, Nurses and Support Staff to ensure all shifts were covered for smooth running of the service. Managing People: My workload consisted of handling all training, sickness and annual leave for 36 staff members. Updating management with statistics, writing staff reports and organising training.

• Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Glan Clwyd Hospital
Medical Records Clerk: Working to deadlines: Gathering important medical records for various hospital department clinics and ensuring this was complete in time for the clinic. Organisation: This was an essential skill that I used every day at work. Organising medical records in line with hospital policies ensured the smooth running of the department.

• University of Chester
Student Representative: I represented the views of the students in my seminar groups. I organised a termly meeting to allow students to raise any issues or complaints and state opinions and ideas, I would then relay this back to the staff and await their response. My verbal and written communication skills were extremely important for this role. I sometimes dealt with very personal student issues and liaised with the Student Union. I attended training and networking events to represent the students on my degree course.

• Conwy County Council Archives
Research Assistant Organisation: Arranging, sorting and cataloguing a wide variety of historical documents, images and artefacts. Evaluating: Forming ideas from a range of materials while carrying out research for the public to pass back the information I had found. Appraising: Coming to a conclusion on the value of historical document or image for research purposes.

• Blackpool Local Information and History Centre
Research Room Assistant: Sorting, appraising and cataloguing a range of historic Blackpool images. I then gathered this material and created an index for the public to use in their research. This experience allowed me to work with members of the public from various age groups and careers. I enjoyed supporting people with their research and the communication I had with so many different people. I was able to find out about their research and provide support by finding materials to further their study.

• Support for Schools: Hathershaw High School - Oldham
Teaching Assistant: Lesson planning and marking developed my time management skills. This was essential for the lessons to be timely and efficient. Excellent communication skills were important as I was teaching English to children from non-English speaking families. This impacted their school work and they often lost focus, but I enjoyed managing my group, encouraging and motivating them. My organisation ensured that I could support the lead teacher and make a good contribution to the activities.
