I like to keep the lessons fun and informal. I try to keep the student interested by teaching them the songs that they like, and not get too bogged down with theory! I also try to get them playing asap!
I have been playing guitar in bands for over 30 years, and gigged all over the UK and occasionally abroad. I've taught many people over the years from all ages and backgrounds, at my home and at their home
I am demonstrating my suitability for this role by providing examples of the transferable skills gained in my current employment and spare time.
I currently work for myself, managing, running, and performing in two professional tribute bands. We perform at weddings, clubs, pubs, casino, private bookings, and holiday parks. This has helped me gain a lot of confidence working with clients, such as entertainment managers at holiday parks, club committees, wedding planners and agents etc... Im also used to dealing with the general public, in sometimes difficult circumstances. People skills are an essential part of what I do.
. I am not just hard working and personable: I am approachable, but honest and supportive to others. I have gained the confidence to work effectively in a team, as I have two people that work for me, in the band every weekend.
I have also driven various long wheel based vans all over the UK and occasionally abroad. I design flyers, posters, business cards and other promotional material for the bands. I do the business accounts and wages and keep them up to date. Equipment maintenance is also a skill I have acquired during the last 10 years or so. Being punctual and arriving at set times, (sometimes hundreds of miles away) are also a crucial part of my current job.
During the week when our children are at school I am a releif care worker for a company called Riverside. They offer care and supprt for people with learning difficulties. This role involves supporting people with everyday tasks such as cooking, shopping, doing their accounts, cleaning and recreational activities. I also have to make sure the residents take their medication. During this work I achieved a Level 2 certificate from MLC in the safe handling of medication and also had training in first aid , manual handling , autism awareness , internet safety and personal support behaviour.
I have also taught guitar at home for private students , helping people develop there playing skills how to learn songs , and how to understand the basics of music theory.
Previously to my current jobs , I worked as a Postman for 17 years. I sorted and delivered mail to an entire village by myself. I worked in all weathers, getting up sometimes at 4am , 6 days a week. I was on first name terms with many of the customers on my round and was very sad to leave. I only left this job due to having children ,and becoming a full time stay at home dad. This enabled my wife to continue her job in retail management, which was a bigger income than mine at that time.

Perfect! This is very early days for me, and Paul is going at my speed. He is easy going, down to earth. He encourages me and makes me feel I`m getting the hang of it, so I don`t feel the "I can`t do it" pangs of early lessons....I`ve only had 2!! but I`m looking forward to my 3rd this week. I KNOW I will get there.... in my own time, and I know Paul has the patience for me to succeed.
Judith has real enthusiasm and is keen to learn, she takes everything on board and is a pleasure to teach
I've known Paul for years he is a good and experienced guitarist, but in regard to tutoring I would also say he is trustworthy, kind and thoughtful.
Paul is an extremely talented and competent guitar tutor. He has played in professional bands, written his own music and tutored guitar for a number of years including teaching my son.\ who has excelled.
