I can understand the difficulties pupils may face when beginning to study psychology due to the vast amount of information the topic covers and the theoretical side to it, however these are two of the things that make it such an interesting area that is developing continually; I am keen to enlighten pupils in relation to this.
Alongside carrying out research at the university I provide weekly psychology private tuition for three students, two a level students and one first year university student. I follow AQA and Eduqas specifications and collate lesson plans that include matching key word activities, research paper discussions and exam questions. I believe it is of key importance to spark an interest in the subject for my pupils before getting down to the details.
I have an array of experience within psychology, both practical and theoretical. This ranges from supporting clients with post traumatic stress disorder and children with autism. My theoretical experience is based in research and I presented a project at the annual BPS biopsychology conference on the effect of stress on emotion recognition.

Graduate Teaching assistant- Psychology workshop seminars This involved teaching first year undergraduate psychology students how to use specialist equipment to measure physiological response based on psychological theory. Learning support mentor- Back on Track I taught English, verbal and written skills to vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, drug and alcohol misuse and reintegration after release from prison for 12 months. I had to tailor the work and instructions to meet the individuals needs and exercise different techniques to motivate learning.
Educational psychologist shadowing- Cumbria county council Through work experience, before entering into my Psychology degree, I got the opportunity to work alongside an education psychologist and observe the steps but in place to ensure the right provisions are made within a classroom setting for each individual to progress in education. This helped me to understand the education system and the network that surrounds each pupil that promotes learning and well being.
Volunteer classroom assistant- Special educational needs To begin my teaching experience, I volunteered at a special education school for children with learning disabilities, during this time I started to build my skills of teaching material to others and to identify individual needs and differences and to adapt accordingly.
