My aim is to tailor the lesson to you. If you are learning English, but you have a mathematical brain, I will modify my lesson plan to teach you formulas to write an outstanding essay. My method puts your learning style at the centre and I will work hard to plan a lesson that works for you.
I am a second year student studying psychology at the University of Edinburgh. I received 40 points in the Inernational Baccalaureate taking Psychology, English, Maths, Chemistry, Spanish and Drama. I am an avid dancer and play guitar to grade 7. Happy to teach in any of these areas, but am most prepared to teach English.
Summer Research Placement at University of Reading Psychology Department:
During this placement, I assisted Dr. Helen Dodd with her research into predictors of child anxiety as part of a project called ‘Watch Them Grow’, by testing children, aged 3 and 4, using a variety of cognitive tasks, parent questionnaires and interviews and eye-tracking tasks. Additionally, I took on several other projects involving conducting testing, shadowing speech and language therapy for down’s syndrome children and processing data using SPSS, excel and Net Station Review. This placement was extremely valuable to me in that I was able to acquire skills including data processing and analysis, working with young children, conducting experiments in laboratories and communicating with participants. I was also able to learn a lot about the nature of research by assisting a number of professors to collect and process data for their research in the Psychology Department.
Consultant for Reading Charity, Decibels (current role):
At the age of 15, I raised £3000 for Decibels, a charity that makes the arts more accessible for disabled children, and have since been working with Decibels, directed by Mr. Ken Carter, as a consultant. My role is to write applications for grants for projects, assist the delivery of workshops with children and communicate with artists and workshop leaders to organise projects.
Theatre Critic for Young Perspective:
As a Young Perspective Theatre Critic, I volunteer to view shows around Edinburgh and write reviews to a 36 hour deadline to be published on the young perspective website. This role includes critiquing of a variety of shows, working to strict deadlines, being self-motivated to take on projects and making use of my creative and analytical writing skills.
Assistant Dance Teacher:
As a Kathak dancer, I assisted my guru in teaching weekly classes for children aged 4-15.
Organisation of Hygiene Packs for Refugees in Calais:
In year 12, I led a group of students in my school and collaborated with a charity called refugee relief to collect and distribute hygiene items to refugees in Calais. This involved raising awareness of the refugee crisis within my school through assemblies and posters, advertising for students to donate hygiene items, organising a group of volunteers to fort and pack hygiene bags and communicating with ‘refugee relief’ to transport the bags to the camp in Calais.
