I am available to give instruction from AS/A-level to undergraduate studies. Beside relevant course material; I can instruct in memorisation techniques, as well as means of coping with anxiety and stress. I prefer a conversational approach, and the use of debate to help students gain more confidence in their knowledge base. I also make use of structured practice; rehearsing the actual tasks a student will have to undergo to pass their course. My speciality is clinical psychology, and I have counselling experience, so am most suited to students considering those career paths.
I have been tutoring informally, on and off, for around seven years and mostly Undergraduate Psychology students. However, I have also assisted A-Level psychology students. I have tutored numerous students; but five on a long term basis. Three passed with at least a 2-1, and two A-Level students exceeded their predicted grade, and achieved unconditional offers to their universities of choice.
I would be open to negotiating a rate for students funding their own tutoring, or for A-Level students from a low income family. I would also be willing to negotiate a reduced rate until after the first assignment, or test, a student undergoes after they begin their tutoring under me; with the understanding that if my tutoring proves satisfactory I will be given my stated rate for future sessions.
I have significant volunteer experience which informs my approach to tutoring, and teaching in general. During my years in Academia, when possible I have volunteered with Mind, the Samaritans, and SANE, in their front-line roles where possible. Working with people who come to them for help; usually on the phone line provided by SANE and the Samaritans but have also volunteered to take part in their more face to face roles. For example, the tea and coffee meetings they arrange, and support groups as well.
I have several skills which I believe I am effective at passing onto those who receive tutoring from myself:
• I have undertaken Mental Health First Aid Training and have given lectures in Mental Health Awareness.
• I am adept at conflict resolution; I have had to act as a mediator several times in my academic career, and when volunteering as part of MIND.
• I have proven public speaking ability; I have presented talks on mental health awareness, and psychology during my time in ST John's Ambulance, and during my academic career.
• I have learning disability awareness; having instructed several students with Special education needs.
• I am familiar with data set management and analysis due to research experience, and volunteer work.
• Confident in a one to one setting and have experience as such through MIND and the Samaritans.
As such I can offer to help students who struggle with any of the above issues, or for whom those skills form an essential part of their chosen courses. Below I have included my formal education:
MSc Foundations of Clinical Psychology
BsC (Hons) Psychology
• English Literature
I am willing to tutor individuals at any level up to that of my own stated competency in the above subjects. My speciality is psychology, but I am willing to tutor non-native speakers in English online, or tutor history as it is one of my other great passions in life.
As a tutor I prefer conversation as the foundation of a tutoring relationship. I am confident in most forms of online communication, be it instant messaging, or voice/video calling, and will make all forms of communication available to any student. Beside this, I prefer an approach which is built on a growth-orientated mindset, and techniques which best suit the student. I am willing to help with the problems presented, and which the student confronts, but I will also strive to research the courses of students to understand best what their courses want from their work to get the best results.
I have known Keith through my work with the Fron Male Voice Choir. Keith is an excellent communicator and takes time with great patience to explain very complex concepts in an accessible way. He clearly has a very thorough knowledge of Psychology and would be a great choice for anyone looking to learn more about this subject.
Keith excelled in Psychology and has superb critical analysis skills. Thoroughly decent guy!
