I approach creative writing with a myriad of different techniques and methods to nurture the writer within. I work on sensory perception and how to use daily writing tasks to build your writing skills. Each person is entirely different so I use my intuitive and communicative skills to build a relationship with the mentee that will benefit their writing and open up their creative work.I have successfully prepared many students for their 11 plus entrance exams for schools across London including Sevenoaks School,Eton,JAGS,Wilsons and Nonsuch High School for Girls. At GCSE level I have raised my students grades to enable them to achieve the best possible results. Within my teaching I have experience teaching dyslexic students and children with special learning needs.
I relish nurturing and providing children and young adults with the skills to reach their goals and ambitions. My experience working in the classroom, the theatre and theatre in education, backed up with my knowledge of linguistics is a powerful combination, and enables me to approach my teaching using a variety of teaching and learning strategies.
I am a published poet and author as well as a well-qualified, professional English and Drama teacher with a wealth of experience in education and professional theatre and a passion for creative writing and literature. I am a graduate of Central School of Speech and Drama (P.G.C.E) with a degree in Theatre Studies and Dramatic Arts (University of Warwick), and a Masters in Education and Applied Linguistics (The Open University).I am currently working on a Phd in Screenwriting at De Montfort University developing a T.V Drama The Wild Women of Paris based on the life of Natalie Barney and her literary salons

Comments on her work
Afeto- An Ekphrastic Collection Energy sizzles in these lyrical pieces that pulsate to the beat of Lito Silva’s powerful images. The combination of Maria Straw-Cinar’s distinctive voice with Lito Silva’s vibrant images is breathtaking. A unique debut in which every mark on the page and every sound matters.

I think this is an amazing piece of work. The language is voluptuous, sinuous, rich in colour and delicious play of and on words...an astonishing virtuoso symphonic stream. The passion of it is head-on and the pain and sensuality in startling measure and degree. I revelled!
Graeme Fife (BBC Playwright and Novelist)
Mythic, magical and poetic, Girl takes us on an extraordinary journey through loss and transformation. At once an oneiric coming of age novel and an exploration of the violence of sexism and colonialism, Girl is an intense and unique read.”
Jan Fortune Author and Editor at Cinnamon Press
