Each lesson will be personalised and formulated to ensure maximum student speaking time. There will be fun, interactive activities so that learning is an enjoyable experience. All my lessons will be catered according to level and personal areas for improvement. I want this to be a collaborative relationship built on trust and respect.
I graduated with a 2:1 from Queen Mary University of London. I had initially been drawn to Law due to its capacity to enact positive social change but soon became disillusioned with this utopic construction of law. Although my goal has remained the same, I have changed tack by venturing into education. I have prior teaching experience (Debate Mate Mentor; TEFL Tutor) and am due to start teacher training with Teach First in September 2021.
After having read Law at QMUL, I became disillusioned with Law as a vehicle for positive social change. I decided to begin the transition to education as I am a firm believer in the doors that it can open. I am eager to get to know my students closely so that I can provide nuanced and personalised lessons. I am also keen for open dialogue about what does and doesn't work in order to maximise student learning. There is a very close interrelationship between Law and English so I am more than capable of offering tuition in this field.
I have previous classroom experience from when I taught Year 5 pupils at a disadvantaged school via Debate Mate. However, I am open to working with all levels of ability and age. I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language to adult learners via a different platform, so I am well acquainted with the virtual learning landscape.
Emmy is an amazing tutor who always goes the extra mile for her students. Emmy has brilliant subject knowledge and this comes out in her sessions. I highly recommend Emmy for all and is most certainly the tutor that made me progress the most.
Emmy has a strong passion in her field which is evident in her teaching. She is very enthusiastic and has a warm personality which makes it a pleasure to learn with her.
When I was studying for an A level in English literature I struggled with understanding the language in Shakespeare. Emmy would go through passages slowly and help me understand exactly what was being conveyed in the text. She would often ‘translate’ Shakespeare Elizabethan English into standard English to aid my understanding. It didn’t take long for me to get the hang of reading Elizabethan English and as a result, interpreting the play (we were studying Measure for Measure) became easier for me. As a result of Emmy’s help I got a much better grade in my A level than I would’ve done. She is very patient and I appreciated how I could ask simple questions without feeling embarrassed about doing so. I got so much out of the experience that I now read Shakespeare plays for fun in my spare time.
Would highly recommend Emmy, she’s patient, resourceful and very friendly.
