Each lesson will be personalised and formulated to ensure maximum student speaking time. There will be fun, interactive activities and games so that language acquisition occurs smoothly. I am open to all levels of students, from Beginner to Advanced. I am also open to all age ranges. All my lessons will be catered according to level, age and personal interests and motivations.
Between October 2017 – May 2018 I worked as a Mentor via Debate Mate. During this time I engaged 9-12 primary school children each week in activities designed to improve transferable debate skills. I ensured that there was optimum enthusiasm throughout to maintain their focus and attention. I addressed the children age appropriately without hindering linguistic opportunities by speaking clearly and coherently even when dealing with difficult concepts e.g. intonation, rebuttals, points of information. It was so rewarding to see the students grow in confidence and build a sense of camaraderie.
I have begun TEFL tuition via another platform but am still in the infancy of my language teaching journey. I hope to continue growing alongside my pupils, whilst continuously adapting and changing methods to suit student needs.
After having read Law at QMUL, I became disillusioned with Law as a vehicle for positive social change. Which is why I recently gained a Level 3 TEFL Certification as I am passionate about education and a firm believer in the doors that it can open.
I have previous classroom experience from when I taught Year 5 pupils at a disadvantaged school via Debate Mate. However, I am open to working with all levels of ability and age.
I am due to start teaching Geography via Teach First in September so would also be able to provide lessons in Geography. I am eager to get to know my students closely so that I can provide nuanced and personalised lessons. I am also keen for open dialogue about what does and doesn't work in order to maximise student learning.
Emmy is an amazing tutor who always goes the extra mile for her students. Emmy has brilliant subject knowledge and this comes out in her sessions. I highly recommend Emmy for all and is most certainly the tutor that made me progress the most.
Emmy has a strong passion in her field which is evident in her teaching. She is very enthusiastic and has a warm personality which makes it a pleasure to learn with her.
When I was studying for an A level in English literature I struggled with understanding the language in Shakespeare. Emmy would go through passages slowly and help me understand exactly what was being conveyed in the text. She would often ‘translate’ Shakespeare Elizabethan English into standard English to aid my understanding. It didn’t take long for me to get the hang of reading Elizabethan English and as a result, interpreting the play (we were studying Measure for Measure) became easier for me. As a result of Emmy’s help I got a much better grade in my A level than I would’ve done. She is very patient and I appreciated how I could ask simple questions without feeling embarrassed about doing so. I got so much out of the experience that I now read Shakespeare plays for fun in my spare time.
Would highly recommend Emmy, she’s patient, resourceful and very friendly.
