Sarah is a superb teacher. She had helped me achieve my IELTS goals. She always thinks about new ideas on how to explain grammatical structures and takes extra care with correcting mistakes. She also has a great personality, which allows people to relax during her lessons. I would highly recommend Sarah to anyone who needs to improve English for IELTS or for a professional career.

“Sarah is a very good English teacher. I had face to face lessons with her. I work in the construction industry and wanted to improve my English for this as I work with people from different countries and we communicate in English. She helped me a lot to improve my speaking confidence and vocabulary. I also learned technical vocabulary for my work. She helps me to understand some differences in business culture in the West. She made studying very fun and gave me a lot of praise and feedback. Since I improve my English with Sarah I got a promotion at work. I would recommend Sarah to anyone. She is very friendly, patient and funny. Thank you Sarah.” Asad Javed, Saudi Arabia

Sarah is the best teacher I’ve ever had! She is always well prepared and enthusiastic. She helped me with IELTS preparation, I got a 7.5 overall which literally changed my life - now I am studying in the UK!

I definitely recommend Sarah she’s been teaching me for the last 4 years. She is brilliant always on time and the price charged for the lessons are extremely reasonable.

I’ve known Sarah for the last 4 years. She’s an amazing teacher! She takes pride in her work and is extremely passionate about the success of her students. Sarah has a pleasant manner, which creates a positive learning environment. Anyone would be lucky to have her teach them ❤️.

Sarah is an amazing tutor and proof-reader! She is so much fun and makes you remember your mistakes and understand how to say things correctly, precisely because of that fun approach. She has a very international experience, which makes her adapt to very diverse students and learning styles. No matter her humour, she is also very critical and has no problem in telling you what is wrong and why. I have known her for 9 years now and I recommend her 100%!

Interview with Sarah Louise

QUESTION 01 | 08
Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
Sarah Louise — I'm a native English speaker from the UK but traveling and meeting students from around the world has inspired me to start learning other languages.
QUESTION 02 | 08
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Sarah Louise — British Culture is very diverse, many of my students think about Queen Elizabeth II, or Mr. Bean, but I think that British culture is a mix between Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter, and David Bowie. It's weird, it's wonderful, and it's creative.
QUESTION 03 | 08
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
Sarah Louise — British people (especially children) do this strange thing ….
On the first day of every month, before 14:00 you can pinch and punch (hit) a friend or classmate. At the same time you should say "Pinch punch first of the month, white rabbit no returns". But if you forget to say "no returns" your friend or classmate can reply by punching and kicking you, and say "a punch and a kick for being so quick". Don't worry, people don't actually hurt one another. This tradition dates back to the Medieval era when people would perform rituals to scare away witches, but nowadays it's just a little fun between friends to see who remembers to do it first. Do you have anything like this in your culture?
QUESTION 04 | 08
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Sarah Louise — Learning English can give you so many opportunities. Even if you don't want to work or study in an English speaking country it's useful for travel, to communicate in a common language with other non-native speakers, to keep up to date with cutting edge academic research, and to access a greater part of the internet are a few good reasons to start.
QUESTION 05 | 08
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Sarah Louise — There is a big difference between the English we read in English text books, and listen to in American movies, and the English that native speakers use. In day-to-day life native speakers use a lot of phrasal verbs, slang, idiomatic language, and have many different accents. Native speakers often ignore grammar rules even though they know them and make mistakes with was and were especially when they are speaking. As a language learner the best way to overcome this problem is to watch a lot of British reality telly (television - see what I mean about slang) . It might not be your "cup of tea" (see what I meant about idioms) but you will learn how native speakers speak, and practice listening to lots of different accents. It could be a dating show, or a baking competition, as long as there are real people and not actors it will be useful.
QUESTION 06 | 08
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
Sarah Louise — When I was teaching and living in Saudi Arabia, one day I used google translate to ask for something in a pharmacy. The pharmacist looked at me and was very confused. I had asked him for a lion cub. A good English Learner's Dictionary beats a translator every time!
QUESTION 07 | 08
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Sarah Louise — I have travelled to parts of the world where nobody speaks English at all. This has helped me as a teacher to understand how some of my students feel when they don't know how to communicate. I also have started learning French for the same reason. I always try to push myself in different ways to become a better teacher.
QUESTION 08 | 08
What makes you a Superprof in language?
Sarah Louise — I think I'm a superprof in English, because I try to make my lessons interesting and interactive. I will correct students but I also give lots of praise.
