I am a firm believer that students should be taught "how to think, not what to think" so I teach students thinking skills, developing deep understanding of topics and skills for the future. Having taught at a variety of comprehensive and grammar schools in the county and with experience with SEN I am in a position to educate students from most educational backgrounds.
I have a 2:1 in Mathematics from Royal Holloway University of London and a PGCE in Mathematics for 11-18 year olds from Canterbury Christ Church, a course which has well prepared me to tutor all types of students and all abilities.
During my course I excelled at using creative ways to teach the subject, focusing on creating a deep understanding of the material and mastery of the subject to help secure the child's knowledge throughout their course-rather than teaching it through repetition and them forgetting the week later! Therefore, I often teach a subject using puzzles and different formats such as follow me cards to keep the children interested and engaged while encouraging fluency with the material. Additionally, to ensure the children are challenged to think and solve for themselves I often propose difficult problems and use questioning to help them discover the method and answer themselves, something most children are capable of and are not encouraged to enough of at school. I find all of the above essential to students achieving their best with the new GCSE specification for Maths and personally find it creates not just good exam results but students with skills for the future regardless of which path or subject they choose to pursue.
Having attended a Grammar School myself I understand the importance and pressures of admissions exams and feel very capable of helping students learn the thought processes and styles to approach questions needed in these reasoning tests in a fun way so they do not worry and go into the exams confident they can tackle any question.
During my time at university I mentored two students with special educational needs in years below mine to help them with their studies so am quite used to providing support for educational needs as well.

I am a qualified teacher (PGCE 11-18 Mathematics) with a maths degree and over 4 years experience teaching but over 8 years experience working with young people.
For the last 2 years, I have been teaching over the phone in support of an educational company, helping 10 or more students in an evening, so I am experienced and successful at distance teaching and helping with full topic support or the odd quick question.
