First and foremost, I believe lessons need to be engaging to the student. It's essential that I understand what interests the student and what his/her learning needs are so that we can be 100% focused. So, the first time I will meet with the student, we will spend 30 mins or so outlining likes/dislikes, aims/objectives from the lessons.
I typically follow a basic structure/lesson outline from a select number of coursebooks that have proven to help students and I then supplement with a lot of material from the internet (for authentic, more current/topical reading texts etc) as well as videos - some exercises in a coursebook can be quite boring! My own personal experience of working in the business world for 14 years also means I'm in the know for what students can expect in the real world! A lot of the lessons are also heavily focused on business skills in English (emails, presentations, interview skills, cv/cover letters, networking) - so focusing both on the do's and don'ts in business but also making sure the functional language is used correctly. For those who wish to be entrepreneurs and want to create their own business/start up, I can give valuable insight on presenting their business idea, raising capital for it etc!
I have 14 years of finance/business experience, having worked both in the City and in Mayfair (where a lot of asset mangers/private equity funds are based).
Further to my studies (Bsc Economics from the London School of Economics, Msc Finance from Imperial College Business School), I worked both on the investment side (analysing the numbers! (to include corporate mergers, investments in real estate) as well as on the marketing/fundraising side where I had to sell financial products to private and institutional clients. As a result, I have a lot (!) of experience in selling and presenting! I think these skills are key in any business setting.
In addition to teaching Business English over the past year, I have also taught Economics for GCSE and A-level students. I have the CELTA qualification for teaching English as a foreign language. All of my students say the love my teaching style! happy to connect you to some of them if you would like. Please also take a look at my LinkedIn profile under the name Georgia Vranaki for further details on my CV.
Perfect! Georgia is a fantastic teacher. She is very enthusiastic and very professional. Her experience in finance was great and our business English classes helped me a lot.
