About the lesson
First, I believe lessons should be friendly and fun. If you're not enjoying getting better at English, I'm not doing my job properly! At the start, we'll identify your goals and areas for development. I will then create an individual learning plan with SMART targets to help you improve. Depending on your needs, I use videos and newspaper articles for reading and comprehension, along with a lot of conversation. We can also cover grammar, listening skills, and writing. I always set homework, but if you lack time I understand!
If you need help for a job interview, please consider my Masterclass, which is aimed at helping you succeed in the recruitment process.

About Christopher
I've been a teacher since 2004. After my BA (Hons) and MA, I gained my PGCE (official British teacher training qualification) while working in the UK college system, before teaching overseas. I teach people from a range of backgrounds including the banking sector, medicine and the 'Big Four,' as well as private students seeking to attain better EFL exam results.
I have many happy and successful learners who have gone on to pass IELTS, get better jobs, and emigrate to English-speaking countries.

Find out more about Christopher
01
Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I was born in England and I teach English every day. But more than this, I love my language and was fortunate to have an English teacher who inspired me to write. I'm now a novelist.
02
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
I think Winston Churchill for his tenacity; William Wilberforce for bringing an end to slavery (which reflects our positive attitude towards our multicultural society); and Basil Fawlty, who typifies the eccentric British character!
03
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
My favourite words include: sleazy, inexorable and disparity. Least favourite are those Americanised words which are unnecessary (but which I find myself using, nonetheless.)
04
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
It's the language of business, media, medicine and transport. It has over a million words and can express almost anything.
05
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Phrasal verbs. There are so many of them! Rules that get broken time and time again. The native language of the learner presents its own difficulties. The answer is patience and application on the part of both teacher and learner. And making sure lessons are enjoyable, even when tackling the hard stuff.
06
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I was expelled from school at the age of 12, missed four years of education and ended up with an M.A., becoming a teacher. Never write off the seemingly impossible-or improbable.
07
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Living abroad has helped me to realise that the language I took for granted as being easy isn't easy to people from other countries. I believe this has helped me to be a sympathetic teacher and one who adapts his vocabulary and syntax when teaching intermediate-level students.
08
What makes you a Superprof in language?
Passion. Plus a teaching degree and twenty years of experience 😉
