I use a range of resources to support my students in each of my lessons, such as traditional pen and paper; board and marker; videos; interactive games on the Ipad; coins; counters; number lines; hand-made resources etc. The preferred choice of teaching and materials is constantly assessed and reviewed throughout the lessons to determine which best suits the needs of the child.
I am a graduate from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a BSc in Speech and Language Therapy. I have over 12 years’ experience teaching and tutoring English to children in KS1, KS2 and KS3 (ages 5-13) and Maths to children in KS1-2 from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, as well as teaching children with additional learning needs.
My passion for working with children with additional learning needs is reflected in my past experience of having worked as a Speech and Language Therapist with children with a range of needs, including those with Autism, Dyspraxia, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), stammering and Speech and Language Delays and Disorders. I have also worked in various school settings including Special needs schools, Special Needs Units, mainstream schools as an SLT, Teaching Assistant and Voluntary school staff.
My first tuition session typically involves an assessment session to measure the abilities of my students. I strongly believe and practice that liaising with parents and school staff supports me in selecting which areas of the curriculum to support; this matches the school curriculum and the needs of the students and in turn supports my students in achieving their best potential. This is then followed by a brief lesson plan which outlines which topics/concepts we will cover over the next term or longer if required. Parents consistent support with ensuring their child completes their homework is a crucial aspect of the students success which I strongly encourage throughout the process.
I currently only provide tuition at my local library (Cathays) or online.
Cancellation policy: the student/family are required to inform me at least 1 day in advance if they wish to cancel. Otherwise the full fees will be charged.
